Virunga Valley Academy (VVA), a Christian international school in Rwanda, seeks a missional K–12 Art Teacher who is an authentic follower of Jesus Christ and passionate about cultivating creativity, excellence, and character in students. Position Overview:
The Art Teacher will lead a comprehensive visual arts program for grades K–12, including AP Studio Art portfolio guidance for upper secondary students. Instruction includes elementary, middle, and high school art, with increasing rigor and frequency in upper grades.
Responsibilities:
-Design and implement a vertically aligned K–12 art curriculum
-Teach practical projects in textiles, sculpture, drawing, painting, and 2D visual art
-Integrate art history, critique, and creative thinking
-Guide AP students through portfolio development and submission
-Assess student learning and communicate progress effectively
-Maintain studio organization, safety, and art supply inventory
-Curate student exhibitions and contribute to school events
Requirements
Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field
-Minimum 2 years of K–12 teaching experience
-Demonstrated artistic proficiency
-Fluency in English
-Strong classroom management and organizational skills
-Spiritual Commitment
-Active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
-Ability to integrate biblical worldview into instruction
-Commitment to Christian community and discipleship
Preferred: AP teaching experience, international or Christian school experience, digital art expertise.
