POSITION TITLE: American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal
START DATE: August 2026
STATUS: Part-Time; Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
Southwest Christian High School (SWCHS) exists to develop mature disciples of Jesus Christ who seek, know, live, and proclaim the Truth and glorify God through academic, artistic, and athletic excellence. SWCHS provides a caring environment in which every student is known and valued. This teacher will be responsible for instructing students in American Sign Language, including creating lesson plans, teaching vocabulary and grammar, and incorporating lessons on the culture of deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Preparation and Instruction
- Develop a curriculum that aligns with course learning objectives, focusing on meaningful learning experiences and considering student abilities.
- Integrate Christian philosophy of education and biblical principles across the curriculum.
- Utilize diverse instructional aids, methods, and materials to facilitate creative teaching and address the holistic development of each student (spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional).
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student grades, attendance, and progress, and communicate this information promptly to students and their families.
- Foster a positive school image by consistently maintaining professional conduct and representing the school favorably in public relations.
- Ensure the classroom environment is clean, welcoming, and well-organized
Teamwork
- Collaborate with department colleagues to develop and deliver consistent and sound instruction.
- Engage in ongoing communication and collaboration with SWCHS colleagues to strengthen student learning.
- Develop relationships across SWCHS that reflect teamwork, relational unity, and spiritual growth.
- Recognize the value of positive public relations and represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to our community.
Supplemental Responsibilities
- Engage in extracurricular activities, organizations, outings, or other tasks as agreed upon with School Administration.
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional and spiritual growth and development.
- Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and leadership functions in the school.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Spiritual Qualities:
- Vibrant Christian Faith: Candidates must possess a genuine, growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, demonstrated through a solid understanding of God's Word and active involvement in a local Bible-believing church.
- Biblical Authority: Actively support the school's Statement of Faith, believing the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and inerrant Word of God—the ultimate standard for faith and practice.
- Spiritual Maturity: Exhibit a consistent desire for spiritual growth, evidenced by prayer, Bible study, integrity of character, and bearing the fruit of the Spirit in all interactions.
- Christian Role Model: Serve as a positive Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others, including adherence to God's biblical standards for sexual conduct (Luke 6:40).
- Required Commitment: Must commit to, sign, and uphold SWCHS’s Pledge of Integrity & Biblical Morality, Statement of Faith, Vision & Values, and Social Position Statement as a condition for employment

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in ASL, Deaf Education or related field from an accredited postsecondary institution.
- ASL Certification from ASLTA (preferred)
- High School teaching experience (preferred)
Technical
- Experience in technology, including but not limited to classroom management software (Blackbaud and Google Suite - preferred).
Salary & Benefits
- $15,600-$39,520 average range; actual salary based on number of classes taught and candidate’s education & experience.
- Benefits include PTO and 401k plan. Ineligible for health benefits. No tuition discount.
