Description
General Description
The Athletic Director provides leadership and supervision for all athletic programs for CCS in accordance with the overall mission, policies, and procedures of our school and in accordance with all rules and procedures of the governing associations applicable to CCS high school and middle school athletics. The Athletic Director must see that the athletic program strives for excellence in obtaining the objectives that best meet the needs of CCS students and the CCS community.
The Athletic Director will be hired by and report to the Head of School. He will be evaluated annually based on the qualifications, expectations, and responsibilities outlined below. Additional duties may be assigned.

Required Professional Qualities
It is expected that the Athletic Director will …
Have a Bachelor’s degree along with professional experience
Apply for and maintain appropriate ACSI certifications and complete the necessary activities to keep the certification current.
Maintain appropriate CPR, First Aid training
Possess training in athletics management and experience in coaching and athletic administration
Possess the teaching ability to effectively coach athletes and mentor coaches with personal integrity and humility
Professional Responsibilities
Athletic Programs and Administration
Provide leadership, vision, and initiative to promote a standard of excellence in all CCS athletic programs
Develop an athletic program that promotes athletic, spiritual, and social growth for athletes and coaches
Provide each program with fair attention, supplies, equipment, and facility opportunities.
Annually update and distribute a CCS Athletic Handbook.
Develop, annually update, and distribute a CCS Coaches Manual setting forth athletic department expectations and key policies and procedures.
Be familiar with and ensure that all CCS athletic programs comply with all rules and regulations of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association and any other applicable associations governing CCS athletics
Develop, maintain, and publish athletic schedules for all sports
Provide the structure for game-day management and oversee the events across all different sports
Attend all home sporting events or arrange for appropriate supervision
Be responsible for scheduling and paying umpires and referees for all sports
Oversee the administration of the athletic budget
Provide for and oversee the appropriate funding of the entire athletic program through budget discussions with the Head of School, fundraisers, marketing efforts and the CCS Booster Club
Be responsible for all athletic supply and equipment orders in coordination with the CCS Booster Club
Collect and maintain all athletic records, including team records, individual records, letters and awards
Plan and oversee athletic assemblies, banquets, awards or certificates
Oversee athletic calendar and coordinate with master school calendar
Oversee and assign transportation for athletic teams
Report and document injuries
Coaches
Find, recruit, and recommend coaches to the Head of School according the CCS hiring policy
Ensure contracts are issued to coaches and received back from them
Provide training for all coaches (i.e. proper coaching conduct, facilities, awards, scheduling, etc…)
Observe coaches in practice and in competition for sport knowledge, coaching practices and ability
Correct any policy, procedure or program error in a timely fashion
Meet with each coach at the end of the season to review the season and provide an appropriate performance evaluation and feedback
Ensure that all equipment, uniforms, keys and other items are distributed and returned in a timely manner
Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding assignment of coaching positions and position openings for the next school year as soon as possible
Outline any off-season workout routines or off-season league requirements and restrictions
Ensure that there is proper communication and cooperation between coaches of all sports
Athletes
Observe student athletes in practice and in competition for coaching respect and sportsmanship
Gather eligibility data according to the eligibility policy
Meet with all athletes to discuss the athletic handbook, athletic opportunities and college athletic requirements
Public Relations
Train coaches in and monitor coach-parent relationships, embracing parents as an essential part of a successful team
Maintain an active program that promotes sportsmanship and welcomes competing teams and guests
Ensure that local media are aware of athletic schedules and any special athletic events
Establish and maintain relationships with the media for athlete and school reports to the community, including box scores and game reports
Maintain a close and harmonious working relationship with area private, Christian and public school athletic programs and community, church, and youth programs and leagues
Attend local meetings for athletic directors
Have a visible presence at most athletic events
Communication
Communicate to all CCS families, athletes and coaches the athletic department’s vision
Handle all correspondence pertaining to athletics
Develop and maintain an avenue of communication with various coaches at colleges and universities for the purpose of gaining insights to help CCS athletes acquire scholarships and participate at the next level
Distribute schedules and notify school families, coaches, and staff of changes
Inform parents, athletes, and coaches of any changes to the Athletic Handbook
Report any major injuries or rule violations to the Head of School
Distribute a list of ineligible students to appropriate coaches
Athletic Facilities
Be responsible for coordination and scheduling for all CCS athletic facilities, including use by outside organizations
Coordinate with the Director of Facilities and be responsible for the proper upkeep and maintenance of all athletic facilities
Procure additional facilities as needed to meet the needs of the athletic program
Coordinate with the Head of School in making recommendations to the CCS Board regarding improvements, expansions, or acquisitions that are needed to support all athletic programs
Social Media
Work with the school’s Marketing Director to manage and update the athletic portion of the school website as well as keep social media accounts up-to-date
Work with the school’s leadership team to ensure that athletic branding is consistent and stays within the school’s branding guidelines
