Description
Position Summary
The Band Director provides dynamic, Christ-centered instruction to elementary and secondary
students in instrumental music. This role leads the school’s band program, including concert
bands, pep band, jazz band and other performance groups. Additionally, this person will teach
the Advanced Placement Music Theory course for High School, sponsor the High School Tri-M
Music Honor Society, and coordinate domestic and international travel opportunities. The Band
Director fosters musical excellence, spiritual growth, and strong character development while
maintaining high expectations in both performance and classroom engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Development
Teach elementary, middle, and high school band classes, including beginning,
intermediate, and advanced levels.
Develop students’ musical skills in tone production, technique, rhythm, music theory,
ensemble performance, and sight-reading according to State, National, and Florida
Bandmasters Association standards.
Prepare students for school band performances, Solo and Ensemble adjudication, Music
Performance Assessment adjudication, festivals, competitions, and school events.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Provide one-on-one or small-group support as needed for instrument mastery.
Program Leadership & Administration
Oversee all aspects of the band program, including scheduling, rehearsals, performances,
and repertoire selection.
Maintain an organized band room, instruments, music library, and equipment inventory.
Coordinate performances for school concerts, community events, athletic games, and
special ceremonies.
Coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements for the bands.
Facilitate instrument rental procedures and instrument repairs.
Collaborate with the Fine Arts Department Head and administration to grow and enhance
the band program.
Delegate tasks to the Assistant Band Director.
Active involvement in all Florida Bandmasters Association events including Music
Performance Assessment (MPA), Solo and Ensemble, All State Auditions, District Honor
Band, and Florida Music Educators Association Conference.
Mange and steward band budget accounts.
Oversee instrumental clinicians scheduling and prompt payment.
Facilitate student leadership opportunities.
Spiritual & Community Impact
Integrate biblical principles into daily instruction.
Model Christ-like behavior, communicate a Christian worldview, and promote spiritual
growth in students.
Build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education
State teaching certification in Music (or willingness to obtain).
Strong proficiency in at least one band instrument and broad knowledge of all band
families.
Experience conducting ensembles and leading performances.
Commitment to the school’s Christ-centered mission and philosophy.
Active Christian faith, demonstrating a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Regular attendance at a local church that aligns with FCS mission and values is expected.
Preferred
Master’s degree in education, Music Education or related field.
Experience teaching secondary students in a school or comparable setting.
