Description
The Dean of Students is responsible for fostering a positive, safe, and structured school culture that supports student success academically, socially, and emotionally. This role provides leadership in student life, behavior management, attendance, and student support systems while partnering closely with faculty, families, and administrators to ensure alignment with LKNC’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
Student Culture & Conduct
Lead the implementation of the school’s behavior expectations, discipline policies, and restorative practices
Investigate and respond to student conduct issues in a fair, consistent, and developmentally appropriate manner
Promote a positive school climate that emphasizes accountability, belonging, and character development
Student Support & Well-Being
Serve as a key point of contact for students experiencing academic, behavioral, or social-emotional challenges
Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and support staff to develop intervention plans
Monitor student attendance and punctuality
Family Communication
Communicate with families regarding student behavior, attendance, and support plans
Partner with caregivers to ensure consistent expectations between home and school
Staff Collaboration
Support teachers with classroom management strategies and student behavior interventions
Participate in professional development related to student culture, trauma-informed practices, and equity
Assist with supervision schedules, transitions, and daily operations
School Operations & Leadership
Contribute to school leadership team meetings and decision-making
Assist with arrival, dismissal, lunch, and event supervision
Support crisis response, safety procedures, and student investigations as needed
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree (education, counseling, psychology, or related field preferred)
Experience working with students in a school setting
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
Strong Christian faith walk
Preferred
Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, counseling, or related field
Prior experience as a Dean, Assistant Principal, or student support leader
Experience with restorative practices
