Position Overview
We are seeking an itinerant creative, energetic, and passionate Elementary School Drama Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year to instruct students in the fundamental principles of theater and performance arts. The ideal candidate will develop and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that fosters imagination, self-confidence, teamwork, and communication skills in elementary-aged children. The Drama Teacher will also be responsible for directing and managing students preparing for the FACCS Jr. Fine Arts Speech and Drama Competition.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Theater Arts, or related field.
Valid state teaching certification, ACSI certification, or relevant credentials in Art Education.
Experience teaching theater arts to elementary-aged children.
Proven ability to manage and organize supplies in a mobile "Drama on a Cart" setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility and adaptability to work within different classroom environments and schedules.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire students to explore their creativity
Essential duties and responsibilities
Curriculum and instruction
Design and deliver engaging, high-quality drama lessons for students across elementary grade levels.
Introduce foundational drama skills through creative storytelling, imaginative play, and basic acting techniques.
Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students with varying artistic abilities and learning styles.
Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive and encouraging feedback on performances and assignments.
Classroom management and logistics
Skillfully manage and transport all necessary drama supplies and materials via a mobile cart between classrooms.
Establish clear classroom routines and expectations for students in each new location, particularly for setup and cleanup.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to use available classroom technology, whiteboards, and storage space effectively.
Organize and prepare drama supplies in advance to maximize instructional time.
Assessment and student relations
Evaluate and assess student progress through projects and assignments, providing constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance as required by the school.
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages students to experiment and express themselves creatively.
Communicate with students, parents, and other staff members regarding student progress.
Communication, Collaboration, and Professional Development
Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages self-expression and teamwork.
Promote collaboration among students, helping them work together, share ideas, and support each other.
Foster students' social and emotional development through drama activities that build empathy, confidence, and responsible decision-making.
Stay current with best practices in drama and arts education by participating in workshops, conferences, and professional development.
Oversee the FACCS Jr. Fine Arts Speech and Drama Competition students.
Manage and lead after-school rehearsals for the competition, ensuring students' safety and providing clear guidance.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding class activities, student progress, and upcoming events.
