Position Overview
We are seeking an itinerant Elementary Drawing Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The Drawing Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive visual arts curriculum to students in grades K-5 across multiple classrooms. Using a mobile art cart, the teacher will provide engaging, standards-based instruction in various art techniques, art history, and creative expression. The ideal candidate must be highly organized, adaptable, and skilled at creating a safe and inspiring learning environment in a rotating schedule and diverse classroom settings.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, Fine Arts or Art Education, or related field.
Valid state teaching certification, ACSI certification, or relevant credentials in Art Education.
Experience teaching visual arts to elementary-aged children.
Proven ability to manage and organize supplies in a mobile "Art on a Cart" setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility and adaptability to work within different classroom environments and schedules.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire students to explore their creativity
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum and Instruction
Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans that meet state visual arts standards.
Provide instruction in fundamental art techniques, including line, shape, form and composition.
Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students with varying artistic abilities and learning styles.
Introduce students to art history, different artists, and various artistic movements.
Classroom Management and Logistics
Skillfully manage and transport all necessary drawing supplies and materials via a mobile cart between classrooms.
Establish clear classroom routines and expectations for students in each new location, particularly for setup and cleanup, and to ensure a productive learning environment.
Maintain a current inventory of supplies and materials and submit requisitions for restocking as needed.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to use available classroom technology, whiteboards, and storage space effectively.
Organize and prepare art supplies in advance to maximize instructional time.
Assessment and Student Relations
Evaluate and assess student progress through projects and assignments, providing constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance as required by the school.
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages students to experiment and express themselves creatively.
Communicate with students, parents, and other staff members regarding student progress.
Communication, Collaboration, and Professional Development
Collaborate with classroom teachers and school administration to support students' overall learning and development.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to improve teaching practices.
Plan and arrange student art displays for school exhibitions or school events.
Work with building administrators to uphold and enforce school rules and policies.
