Description

Oita International School is seeking an elementary school teacher to teach Grades 3–4 in Oita, Japan.

Our vision is to raise leaders who will impact nations. We are looking for a candidate with a heart for Japan and missions, and a passion for education and teaching children. As a homeroom teacher, you will be responsible for teaching a range of subjects, including English, Math, Art, PE, Science, and Bible. You will also integrate subject areas into trans disciplinary units of inquiry as part of our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) type program.   

Salary starts at 200,000–250,000 yen per month, which is a comfortable salary to live in Oita. A stipend will be provided during the training period. We will also sponsor your visa for Japan.

The training period will run from January to March 2026, with classes beginning in April 2026. The initial contract will be for one year (until March 2027), with the possibility of renewal. Ideally, we are seeking someone who can commit for at least three years.

Requirements

All instruction will be conducted in English, so you should be a native English speaker or have an excellent command of the language. Previous teaching experience and a teaching license are highly valued. Preference will be given to candidates with prior PYP experience. A four-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is required.
