Job Summary:
The Facilities Manager at Pasadena Christian School has primary responsibility for maintaining the school's facilities, grounds, and vehicles, to ensure they are safe and well-kept for all visitors, students, faculty, and staff. In accomplishing this purpose, the manager will conform to biblical principles and will maintain the highest ethical and professional standards in relating to members of the Pasadena Christian School community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and Repairs: Responsible for the upkeep and repair of the school’s facilities and grounds. Responsibilities involve assessing repair requirements and implementing effective solutions, which may entail installing new fixtures such as door locks, electrical systems, construction elements, painting, masonry, woodworking, and plumbing.
- Backflow Testing: Responsible for scheduling and coordinating with a certified, licensed plumber to conduct testing on our various systems.
- Vehicles: Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the school's vehicles, which include utility cars, vans, and a bus. Duties entail ensuring compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations, CONCENTRA drug and alcohol screening for bus drivers, maintaining annual renewal of vehicle records, managing bus maintenance logs, handling vehicle registration, and coordinating the annual bus inspection with the California Highway Patrol.
- Safety and Security: Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the school's buildings, which includes implementing safety protocols, conducting routine hazard checks, and coordinating annual fire alarm and Pasadena City fire code inspections. Additionally, tasked with providing security for BYH moonlight magic events and promptly responding to POST Alarm security calls triggered by the school's fire or burglar alarms. Including, maintaining the fire and burglar alarm accounts.
- Parking Coordination: Direct and organize parking of cars on the field for several events throughout the year.
- Team Management: Responsible for overseeing and distributing work orders among the environmental services and custodial/janitorial departments. This includes not only assigning tasks but also actively engaging with staff to ensure they complete tasks to the highest standards of quality.
- Project Management: Responsible for negotiating contracts with vendors and contractors. Oversee facility improvement projects. This includes setting timelines and ensuring timely completion of all projects. Additionally, responsible for verifying that all vendors and contractors are properly licensed and insured.
- Vendor Management: Interact with vendors, contractors, suppliers, and maintenance companies, negotiate contracts, assess vendor performance, and ensure quality of service.
- Budgeting and Planning: Responsible for identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring that all expenditures are within budgetary constraints. Work with the Head of School and Controller to develop long-term plans for facility upgrades and improvements.
- Code Compliance: Responsible for ensuring that the school’s facilities comply with all relevant regulations and codes. This includes maintaining records of inspections, ensuring that all safety equipment is up-to-date and in good working order, and coordinating with local authorities, such as Pasadena City Water, Power, and Fire, as needed.
- Supervision: Responsible for supervising staff, including janitors, maintenance workers, and vendors. This includes hiring and training new staff, scheduling work assignments, and ensuring that Environmental Services staff members are performing their duties effectively and efficiently.
- Biohazard Response: Responsible for biohazard cleanup and disinfecting as needed.
- Lock Smith: Responsible for installing, changing and repairing locks, rekeying locks, extracting broken keys, maintaining keyless entry systems, and distributing keys to new hires.
- Audio video: This involves setting up audio-visual equipment such as a digital mixer, microphones, speakers, projectors, screens, lighting fixtures for plays, computer setup for slideshows, and cameras according to the requirements of the event. Conduct testing of audio-visual setups to identify and resolve any technical issues or malfunctions before the start of the event. This involves troubleshooting audio issues, video loss, or connectivity issues.
- Timesheets: Responsible for verifying and approving staff timesheets.
- Event Setup: Responsible for coordinating the setup and teardown of various events, including those such as chapel, theatrical plays, orchestra, staff lunches, sporting events, and more.

Education and Experience:
- High School diploma; previous trade school completion highly desirable.
- At least 5 years overseeing facilities in a school setting (highly recommended).

- Able to lift, bend, grasp, reach, and lift to 50 lbs.

- Possesses a genuine commitment to Christian service. Has initiative and creativity, is highly productive, and is flexible.
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Agrees with the school’s statement of faith and the purpose and goals of PCS in providing an integrated Christian education.
- Use of a computer monitor and reading documents and correspondence.
Technologies:
- Proficient in Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Compensation:
The annual compensation for this role is $68,640.00. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to salary, PCS offers a generous benefits package including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision benefit plans for eligible employees.
