Description
Darren Patterson Christian Academy (DPCA) is a Christ-centered, expeditionary, 4 day a week school located in Buena Vista, CO that serves Preschool-12th grade*. The mission of DPCA is to “guide students in knowledge, character, and faith to discover an authentic love of learning and a life of opportunity.” This goal is what drives our staff daily. DPCA is seeking a Head of School to continue this mission and sustain growth in order to best serve our local mountain community.
* DPCA is currently a Pre-K-8 school, with the hopeful return of a high school in fall of 2026. This growth is dependent on funding, which is actively underway and expected to be finalized this spring. The school is supported by key leaders with a vision for this expansion and is planning for a small, part-time model in year one. Please feel free to reach out to learn more.
Requirements
Clear, well-articulated Christian testimony and lifestyle, as well as evidence of consistent good moral character
Agreement with DPCA’s vision, mission, purposes, philosophy of education and Statement of Faith (please refer to https://www.dpcaweb.org/employment)
Minimum, a Bachelors Degree, preferred with a focus on education. Masters Degree in Education/Organizational Leadership/etc preferred
Experience or familiarity with expeditionary style learning
Experience or familiarity with Teaching for Transformation (teachingfortransformation.org) preferred
Previous experience working in a school or non-profit, preferably in an administrative or leadership role
Strong leader in the following areas:
Supporting and encouraging faculty & staff to flourish and grow both spiritually and professionally
Cultivating positive, engaging relationships with school families as well as with the larger community
Maintaining a work environment and school culture that is positive and grace-filled
Continuing to lead the school towards further expeditionary style learning practices through developing excellence in academic, outdoor, and cultural expeditions in each classroom
Continuing to lead the school towards a culture and curriculum that is distinctly Christ-Centered
Providing fiscal leadership and accountability while driving fundraising efforts
Additional responsibilities include:
Managing facilities, leading board meetings, providing spiritual leadership, facilitating professional development opportunities, overseeing curriculum development, managing marketing efforts, talent recruitment and management, and providing overall visionary leadership for the school’s future
