Position Overview
Lakeland Christian School seeks a passionate and committed Biology and AP Biology teacher who embraces our mission to integrate God's truth with academic excellence. This position offers the unique opportunity to inspire students' wonder at God's creation while preparing them rigorously for college-level science study. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both pedagogical excellence and a vibrant Christian faith, modeling Christ-like character while cultivating students' love for the life sciences.
Academic Instruction
- Teach Biology and AP Biology courses to high school students with enthusiasm and academic rigor
- Use Understanding by Design (UbD) as a curriculum planning framework based on state standards interwoven with Essential Questions and Enduring Understandings that anticipate worldview discussions.
- Pursue laboratory opportunities vigorously for deeper student understanding. Create performance tasks within labs that demonstrate transfer of advanced concepts regardless of course level.
- Develop and implement engaging, inquiry-based lessons that meet AP College Board standards
- Integrate biblical principles and a Christian worldview into biological sciences instruction, exploring themes of creation, stewardship, and the wonder of God's design
- Utilize innovative teaching strategies that promote critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and help each student reach their full potential
- Prepare students for AP exam success while fostering genuine scientific literacy and curiosity
- Design and oversee laboratory experiences that develop practical scientific skills and safety awareness
Spiritual Formation
- Actively disciple students, pointing them to Christ through your teaching and personal example
- Integrate Scripture and biblical truth naturally throughout curriculum
- Pray with and for students, providing spiritual encouragement and guidance
- Participate in chapel services and other spiritual formation activities
- Model a life of worship, service, and Christ-like character Professional Engagement
Professional Engagement
- Maintain current knowledge of biology content, AP curriculum changes, and pedagogical best practices
- Regularly communicate expectations of the courses with students and their parents
- Collaborate with science department colleagues to ensure curricular coherence
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school committees
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities
- Engage in the broader school community through supervision duties, extracurricular support, or coaching
- Contribute to the caring community culture that characterizes LCS
Requirements
Educational Background
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Science Education or related field (required)
- Master's degree in Biology, Education, or related field (preferred)
- Valid teaching certification or ability to obtain certification (Florida and ACSI)
- Previous AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental or AP Physics teaching experience strongly preferred
Faith & Spiritual Maturity
- Eagerness to leverage content expertise with an authentic desire to enter in discipleship with students
- Personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior with evidence of spiritual maturity
- Agreement with and commitment to LCS's Statement of Faith
- Active involvement in a local evangelical church
- Passion for integrating biblical truth with historical study
- Demonstrable Christ-like character including integrity, wisdom, humility, and grace
- Understanding of how Christian worldview applies to historical interpretation and civic engagement
