Description
Maryville Christian School (MCS) is a Christian, interdenominational, private school set in the foothills of Maryville, Tennessee. MCS has been serving Christian families in Blount County and surrounding areas since 1994 and currently enrolls 350+ students in preschool through 12th grade.
The Lower School Principal will manage the daily operations of the Lower School. This position will report to the Head of School and work closely with the Administrative Team to manage daily operations for the designated grades.
The Lower School Principal will be an advocate for Maryville Christian School by representing the school positively on and off campus, inspiring growth and change, and building relationships with students, their families, and the community. Additionally, the Lower School Principal will be a leader of faculty who is passionately dedicated to discipling students, be highly motivated, experienced, spiritually mature, and committed to pursuing God’s excellence in all things.

Qualifications
- Be a Christian who is growing in his/her relationship with Christ
- A master’s degree in an education-related field is required
- Have or obtain within 12 months, and maintain, a Principal Certification from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
- Adhere to the Statement of Faith and the Biblical Lifestyle Statement of Maryville Christian School
- Maintain an active membership in an evangelical church. Continually seek ways to further his/her spiritual growth through regular church attendance, Bible studies, etc.
- Have a passion for serving God in the context of Christian education and pray regularly for students, parents, and staff
- Able to communicate effectively and respectfully, both orally and in writing
- Respectfully submit to and be loyal to constituted authority
Academic Responsibilities
- Serve as an instructional leader and be willing to teach a class, if needed
- Perform observations for faculty to ensure quality instruction and supervision of students
- Assist with professional development, certifications for accreditation, and serving on committees as needed
- Assist with curriculum evaluation and selection
- Help develop an effective professional learning community
- Facilitate department meetings and/or lead in-service trainings
- Evaluate new student testing and placement
- Develops alongside Head of School faculty schedules, calendars, and activities
- Monitors all students individually, and as a whole, academically, behaviorally, socially, and spiritually
Administrative Responsibilities
- Coordinate lower school faculty duty schedules (drop off, pick up, lunch, etc.)
- Attend meetings, in-service, professional development, and school events as requested by the administration and facilitate faculty meetings as required
- Plan a lower school chapel and other opportunities for the spiritual growth of the student body
- Oversee student discipline, partner and communicate with families as needed
- Assure that teachers have the physical space and materials needed to teach, and make administration aware of any needs that are not being met
- Assist with interviewing and hiring lower school faculty/staff
- Coordinate with the Admissions Director on all potential and new student obligations
- Oversee auxiliary positions (cafeteria, clinic, etc.)
- Conduct new family interviews and meet with families regularly to discuss student progress
General Responsibilities
- Have considerable knowledge of the philosophy, goals, and objectives of MCS and be able to communicate them effectively to staff, faculty, and parents
- Incorporate Biblical principles in all relationships and tasks throughout the daily routine
- Contribute to the team effort of the faculty and staff to best meet the spiritual, social, physical, emotional, and academic needs of the overall student body
- Foster a school climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for students, staff, and parents
- Be attentive to accountability, conflict resolution, team building, and organization of staff and faculty
- Maintain a strict level of confidentiality regarding students, parents, and coworkers
- Act as liaison between faculty, parents, and administration, communicating effectively and professionally
- Ensure that policies outlined in the employee handbook and student handbook are followed, making recommendations for changes as needed
- Know emergency procedures and responsibilities associated with them
- Maintain high standards of accuracy in duties and responsibilities, and proficiency in technology
