Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Middle School Math Teacher provides academic instruction in Math alongside our Upper School community towards the goals of our Portrait of a Graduate. While final decisions for the 2026-2027 school year are still to be determined, expected courses will include a combination of Math 7, PreAlgebra 7, Honors Algebra I, and PreAlgebra 8. This teacher reports directly to the Upper School Principal.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Instruction
- Prepare daily lesson plans that align with curriculum guides applicable to his/her subject(s) and grade level(s) and ensure that all curriculum objectives will be achieved.
- Ensure that the principles of God’s Word are integrated into all aspects of classroom instruction.
- Conduct both formative and summative assessment of student learning.
- Provide individualized instruction and student assessment, as appropriate, to ensure that the educational needs of each student are met.
- Establish and maintain a warm rapport with students and a positive, clean, safe, and secure classroom environment.
- Maintain orderly classroom conduct that is conducive to learning and in alignment with the rules and routines described in the BRCS Faculty and Family Handbooks.
- Seek to creatively enhance and enrich the curriculum with field trips, creative assignments, and utilization of community resources.
- Participate in an ongoing program of professional development.
- Pray regularly for each of his/her students and present the Gospel message and other Biblical instruction with sensitivity and love, consistent with the philosophy and guidelines of the school.
General Responsibilities
- Serve as a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others
- Arrive at school in time to participate in staff prayer or devotions (or to assume morning duties) and remain after school until your classes have concluded or all daily responsibilities are complete.
- Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings.
- See himself/herself as an ambassador for the school, faithfully representing it in his/her church and community in a way that honors God and reflects well upon the good reputation of the school.
- Promptly and faithfully fulfill collateral assignments such as hall, dismissal, and lunch duty in a way that demonstrates a servant’s heart and mutual cooperation towards his/her colleagues.
- Comply with all other conditions of employment enumerated in his/her contract
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Believes in Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and in the Bible as God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living
- Faithfully attends a local evangelical church that has a statement of faith in agreement with Blue Ridge Christian School’s Statement of Faith
- Is in wholehearted agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith, Christian Philosophy of Education, and Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality
- Demonstrates the spiritual maturity, intellectual ability, and personal leadership qualities that are hallmarks of an excellent Christian educator, seeking to exemplify the BRCS Mission-Focused Faculty Ideals
- Possesses at least a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
- The ideal candidate possesses classroom teaching experience and holds or is eligible for ACSI or state certification
- Interacts effectively and professionally with classroom teachers, parents, administrative staff and the members of the community
- Exhibits a strong work ethic, flexibility, and sound judgment
- Is committed to his/her own ongoing professional and spiritual growth
- Possesses strong organizational and written and oral communication skills
