Description

Teachers work under the direct supervision of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment and the Head of School. As those most actively partnering with parents on a daily basis, teachers will embody the characteristics of the Portrait of a Graduate as godly role models for the students they commit to teach.

Responsibilities:

Planning:

• Select appropriate performance music for the band to rehearse and perform based on school calendar events and concerts throughout the year. (Veterans Day Celebration, Christmas Concert, In-School Concert in March, Spring Concert, and Graduation).
• Develop a weekly individual lesson schedule for all band students, coordinating with their class schedules as needed.
• Use research based instructional strategies designed to engage students in content
• Plan for intentional biblical worldview development in lessons

Instruction:

• Teach introductory instrumental techniques, music theory, and sight-reading in individual and group settings within a biblically faithful worldview.
• Maintain classroom management in accordance with school policy, expecting responsive, respectful behavior from students

Assessment:

• Use research based assessment strategies, both formative and summative, to guide instruction and positively influence student growth and learning
• Keep detailed records of student growth, reporting on trimester report cards, and communicating with parents otherwise as needed.

Collaboration:

• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service meetings, team meetings, and PLC group meetings
• Attend morning prayer times when it aligns with instructional schedules (7:40am)

Organization:

• Maintain, inventory, and inspect school-owned band instruments, arranging for repairs as needed.
• Teach students in the areas specific to the contracted teaching assignment
• Participate in content specific training as required
• Participate on special committees in support of school-wide activities as required

Requirements

Spiritual Qualifications:

• Demonstrates spiritual maturity through a personal commitment and relationship to Jesus Christ and an active member/regular attendee of a local evangelical church
• Agrees with and commits to uphold Heritage Christian School’s Statement of Faith as well as the mission and vision
• Agrees with and commits to uphold Heritage Christian School’s Declaration of Moral Integrity 
• Demonstrates a commitment to Christian education

 Position:

• Part Time 
• Middle School band class twice a week and lessons once a week
• Schedule flexible

Professional Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Fine Arts, preferably in Music Education or similar degree
• Valid and current Iowa Teaching License preferred
• Experience in the areas of Fine Arts instruction preferred
