Professionally
The Head of School shall…
Have a minimum of years of experience in Christian Academy administration
Have a minimum of a master’s degree in education or a related study. Master’s degree in educational leadership and/or educational administration preferred.
Be certified by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in the field of Christian Academy Administration
Have the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to administer a comprehensive academic program
Have successful experience in schools comparable to PACA
Have training and experience in the recruitment, management, and supervision of Christian Academy personnel
Demonstrate executive and management skills
Have a deep understanding of the philosophy of Christian Academy education
Be open to new concepts and technology
Provide strategic direction and inspiration
Clearly communicate expectations, goals and values
Ensure academic excellence, financial stewardship and operational efficiency
Maintain transparency, ethics and trustworthiness

PACA is a ministry of Park Avenue Baptist Church (PABC) with the mission that seeks to transform lives through acknowledging Jesus Christ as Lord in all aspects of operations
The Head of School is a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church Pastoral Team.
The Head of School is responsible for leading PACA’s relationship with Park Avenue Baptist Church
Relationship with School Board:
The Head of School will provide leadership to the school and represent the Board to the staff of the school, and the staff to the Board
Build and foster a relationship of trust and respect between the Head of School and the members of the Board as all seek God’s wisdom and direction for the school
To Serve as chief communicator between the Board and the faculty and staff
Keep the Board fully informed of such matters and data concerning the needs and operations of the school, as appropriate, and keeping with the Board's responsibilities
Attend and actively participate in scheduled Board meetings.
Maintain a professional working relationship with the Board
Know and implement the policies of the school
Overall Organization:
Provide leadership in the accomplishment of the mission of PACA
Promote an internal organization that permits transparent, open communication
Work to produce smooth day-to-day internal operations
Establish open lines of communication with staff, families and families
Manage budgets, fundraising and resources wisely
Ensure PACA exceeds accreditation standards
Planning and Analysis:
Develop school improvement plan with the faculty and staff.
Participate with the Board and Administrative Team in strategic planning.
Keep abreast of educational trends, and implement them as appropriate for the school, by attending workshops / seminars and by doing personal research
Annually attend professional development workshops as appropriate and as recommended by the Board
Coordinate Academy operations, programs and activities with the
ministry of Park Avenue Baptist Church
Provide leadership in maintaining proper relationships with accrediting, educational, and governmental agencies
Assure timely development of faculty, parent, and student handbooks and newsletters as required to maintain effective communications of PACA policies, tuition information, and current programs
Monitor the status of PACA’s ACSI accreditation and develop a plan for
continued compliance and reaccreditation
Manage PACA recruitment and retention
Planning for maintenance upgrades and expansion
Develop and maintain Crisis response plans
Evaluate academic progress and identify areas for improvement
Review budget, expenses and revenue to ensure fiscal responsibility
Pinpoint opportunities for development and growth
Track progress and collaborate with the Board to adjust strategies as needed
Academic Program:
Monitor the curriculum and textbooks to ensure that the instructional programs are appropriate to accomplish the mission of PACA
Direct faculty in the design, implementation, and administration of student academic programs and services appropriate to the needs of those enrolled and consistent with the school’s values, teaching style, and mission / philosophy that integrates Biblical truths and Christian worldview in all disciplines.
Develop systems of scheduling to accommodate these academic programs and services.
Set standards of participation and achievement in each of the following areas:
Provide leadership in the process of curriculum development to provide assistance and support to the faculty and staff in their efforts to develop progressive curricula that reflect the school’s values, teaching style, and mission / philosophy
Promote hands-on learning experiences and enrichment opportunities
Organize co-curricular activities, elective offerings, cultural exposures, fine arts, and athletics sufficient to round out the school’s academic program and provide for student interest development as budget permits
Personnel:
Define the teaching and non-teaching professional faculty positions needed to implement the school’s programs and recruit highly effective and qualified teachers to fill them
Establish productive working conditions, discipline, training, and development of all professional staff.
Oversee faculty certification and licensure process and perform formal observations as needed per Association for Christian Schools International (ACSI) requirements.
Determine standards and take appropriate steps to measure and maintain reasonable performance and professional growth among immediate subordinates and, through them, all professional employees.
Establish practices and procedures to promote harmonious and constructive relationships among all of the school’s professional staff.
Establish an atmosphere of team building and planning.
Maintain personal contact with all school staff members, fostering good public relations, promoting high morale, and identifying personnel problems as early as possible.
Recognize, coach, and provide meaningful feedback through active performance management throughout the school year.
Direct the procedures related to recruitment, hiring, supervision, and management of all PACA staff, and administer an effective performance appraisal program for all staff members.
Conduct meetings with faculty, administrative and support staff, families, and students
Handle grievances and administer an effective disciplinary program
Organizational Setting:
Responsible for the safety and security of the school’s students and staff
Oversee the safety and security plan.
Develop, maintain, and update as appropriate, a School Safety Plan.
Ensure that all State codes and ACSI standards – health, fire marshal, etc. – are in compliance.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal agencies and guidelines.
Ensure that the school’s academic staff adheres to all personnel policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Ensure compliance with ACSI.
Establish objectives and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.
Ensure staff collaboration and cooperation with facilities management and other facility users as it relates to the physical use and maintenance of the school’s buildings and grounds.
Program and Service Support:
Partner with staff to identify curriculum needs in terms of teaching materials, faculty, and program support.
Approve and administer rules and procedures in the Student Handbook and Staff Handbook.
Promote harmonious relationships between students, faculty, and administrators, recognizing the importance of developing each individual.
Oversee the evaluation of student progress and systems for communicating with families.
Work with the faculty to develop and implement procedures for tracking student progress and for intervening early when concerns are identified.
Meet with the faculty regularly to discuss student progress and assure and facilitate contact and follow-up with families as needed.
Work with the PACA Board and parent/teacher VIP? in the promotion of the academic, fine arts, and athletic programs of the Academy
Technology:
Remain abreast of opportunities for smart, creative use of technology in education.
Finance:
Review and management of operational expenses and budgets
Review and management of staff compensation and pay scales
Prepare a complete annual budget proposal for submission to and approval by the Board.
Ensure that the available financial resources are carefully managed within the budgetary guidelines.
Submit monthly (or as requested) financial reports to the Board, including enrollment, outstanding accounts, income, expenditures, and cash flow projections.
Responsible for ensuring that all student accounts are up to date.
Enrollment:
Recommend enrollment objectives with respect to student enrollment, character, and qualities to predict success at the school
Execute programs to achieve these objectives, including recruiting and retaining students in enrollment sufficient for solid school finances
Ensure admissions criteria includes compliance with PACA mission, vision and Covenant Statement, by working with the Board and faculty to establish and administer standards and procedures.
Provide personal communication to prospective families and facilitate the admissions process.
Conduct interviews with families of prospective students to ensure they embrace the Christian culture PACA upholds.
Conduct exit interviews with families leaving the school to gather data that will help identify the school’s strengths and weaknesses.
School Image / Communication / Public Relations/Marketing:
Maintain excellent relationships with families, faculty, staff, students, alumni, School Board, and administrative team of Park Avenue Baptist Church.
Maintain a high profile and accessibility by being visible and attending school events to build awareness, strengthen family relations, and encourage support of the school.
Work closely with the Board and staff members in planning and carrying out an effective program of interpreting the school to the public.
These groups shall include Park Avenue Baptist Church, the Board, faculty and staff, students, families, alumni, friends of the school, North Brevard County churches, and Brevard County officials.
Endeavor to exemplify the school and its values
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the school
Market the school via the website
Encourage meaningful alumni, parent/family, and past parent/family participation in events that assist and support the goals of the school.
Fundraising:
Participate actively in planning for all fundraising efforts.
Review and approve all fundraising efforts to ensure consistent adherence to mission, vision and statement of beliefs.
Actively support and encourage the school’s fundraising efforts.
Assist in the fundraising efforts by articulating the school’s unique vision and the value of the goals for which the funds are being raised.
Volunteer groups:
Work closely with the officers to ensure programs meet the needs of the school families.
Encourage strong spiritual leadership within the organization.
Monitor, support, and guide the activities of the parent/family volunteer groups designed to escalate parent/family support in identifying and supplementing the needs of PACA
Accountability:
Meet with the Academy Board and/or PABC as required
Give a written report to the Academy Board monthly or when requested
by the Board to include school operations, finances, progress and challenges
Perform all responsibilities in line with Board policies
Give support and loyalty to the Board
Keep the Board Chairperson informed of possible challenges
Collaborate with the Board on long-term goals and objectives
Openly discuss challenges and seek Board guidance
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
This is a high-stress position based on full responsibility for the academy’s operation. The Head of School must handle detailed, complex concepts and problems, balance multiple tasks simultaneously, and make rapid decisions regarding administrative issues.
The academy campuses are currently multilevel facilities, which require the Head of School to negotiate flights of stairs regularly to meet responsibilities as they relate to the academy program. (There is no elevator on campus.)
The administrator must be able to respond quickly when an emergency arises. This person is required to accompany and control children during fire drills or other emergency drills or during an actual emergency. The escape route may require the students and administrator to descend a flight of stairs and walk to the safety area.
During regular school operation, the administrator must walk around the building or buildings, and traverse stairs several times a day. This person must also be able to walk around the school property for the purposes of supervision and inspection.
The administrator must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, to have dexterity of hands and fingers for operating office equipment, and to lift at least twenty-five pounds.
On occasion, the administrator must be able to work longer hours than a typical day for events such as parent-teacher conferences, special programs, committee meetings, or other meetings or functions in the early morning or the evening.
