Location: Newport News, VA 23602
Job Type: Full-Time Exempt, year-round position
Salary Range: $62,800 Base Salary + additional compensation for years experience +
performance bonuses for strategic initiatives
About the school: For over 50 years, Denbigh Baptist Christian School has nurtured hearts
and minds in a private educational setting in Newport News, VA. Its purpose is to assist families
in fulfilling their God-given responsibility to train their children. We provide an affordable
education grounded in a Biblical worldview and marked by academic and extracurricular
excellence, equipping students to impact the world for God's glory. Our mission is to educate the
mind, nurture the soul, and shape the character of students and staff in a Christ-centered
environment, based on the Truth of God’s Word, raising up the next generation of godly
servant-leaders. DBCS currently serves over 250 E3 through 12th grade students with over 35
staff members.
Job Summary: The School Administrator will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Denbigh
Baptist Christian School, responsible for its overall success, spiritual integrity, and operational
effectiveness. This role provides decisive spiritual, educational, and administrative
leadership to inspire and direct all school programs, personnel, and finances in accordance
with the school's Christian philosophy and policies. The School Administrator is accountable to
the School Management Team (SMT).
Key Responsibilities:
I. Christian & Academic Leadership
The Administrator serves as the school's primary educational expert, ensuring that all programs
are effective, innovative, and reflect a distinctly Christian worldview.
Encourage and support teachers in the integration of God’s Word into curriculum,
planning, and activities.
Effectively and continually apply the school’s Christian philosophy into all programs
and make sound decisions based on God’s Word and wise counsel.
Actively monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning, and hold
staff accountable for curriculum goals.
Promote innovation and effective educational practices and lead staff in continuous
professional development (including new staff orientation and in-service).
Provide leadership for obtaining/maintaining accreditation status (ACSI, etc.) and
implementing accreditation team recommendations.
Oversee student assessment, standardized testing programs, and interpretation of data
for stakeholders.
II. Financial and Operational Management
The Administrator is the chief fiduciary agent, responsible for the effective stewardship of all
school resources, assets, and personnel.
Serve as a Godly steward of the school's budget and resources, implementing
strong internal financial controls and ensuring funds are spent wisely.
Develop, implement, and manage the long-range financial plan and annual budget in
collaboration with the SMT.
Practice effective talent management, including recruiting, screening, hiring qualified
staff, and providing orientation and supervision.
Ensure the school’s facilities are well-maintained and safe and conduct required
emergency drills and safety inspections.
Ensure the school runs efficiently and smoothly through effective organization, master
scheduling, planning, and resource coordination.
Fairly and consistently apply all school policies and procedures, maintaining
compliance with relevant federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to private
Christian schools.
III. Stakeholder Relations
The Administrator acts as the professional liaison between the parents, staff, church, and
community, guiding long-term strategy and maintaining positive relations.
Serve as the professional leader and educational consultant to the SMT, offering
well-studied advice and recommendations for policy based on thorough study and
analysis.
Keep the SMT fully informed on issues, needs, and operations, and cooperate in
creating the long-range strategic plan.
Support SMT policy and decisions to the staff, parents, and public.
Oversee public relations, development programs, and activities related to fundraising
and student recruitment/retention.
Be available for parent conferences, use good judgment in dealing with the
constituency, and act promptly and appropriately on suggestions or reasonable requests.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
The Administrator must be a mature Christian role model who lives a life consistent with
biblical standards and demonstrates a passion for Christ-centered education.
Acknowledge Christ as Savior, live as His disciple, and actively participate in a local
Bible-believing church.
Demonstrate a commitment to systematic study of God’s Word and an active prayer
life.
Agreement with, lifestyle compatible with, and willingness to serve under the Statement
of Faith of Denbigh Baptist Church
Agreement with and ability to abide by the policies and procedures of the DBCS Staff &
Faculty Handbook, including the Code of Ethics
Demonstrate integrity, ethical behavior, and emotional stability, using empathy and
tact when dealing with others.
Be approachable, accessible, and consistent in interactions, administering policy
without partiality or favoritism.
Be a dependable, industrious, and organized self-starter who courageously addresses
challenges and takes initiative on solutions.
Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Educational Administration or a related field
from an accredited institution.
Possess or be willing to obtain and maintain an ACSI Head of School Certificate.
A minimum of five (5) years of successful administrative experience
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills (clear, concise, and
articulate).
Ability to pass a background check including credit inquiry
Preferred Qualifications
Hold a Master's Degree or higher in Educational Administration or a related field from
an accredited institution.
Five (5) or more successful years of classroom teaching experience.
Ten (10) or more successful years administrative experience in a Christian school setting.
