Description
Summary: Seeking a qualified School Counselor who can develop and manage a school counseling program that reduces barriers for learning and increases student success. The School Counselor must also be an example of good conduct for students, parents and coworkers. Experience is preferred, but not required. Furnished housing, rent, airfare and an additional stipend are provided.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Create a school counseling program that is in alignment with the school’s mission and vision and is derived from a foundation of beliefs based on state standards that serve as guidelines as well as the specific needs of the school.
- Plan and teach classroom, small group and individual sessions covering:
- Student assistive services, individual or group counseling, crisis counseling, character development, inclusion of all cultures, referrals,
- Coordinate activities and curriculum that focuses on:
- Career development (career awareness and readiness)
- Citizenship development (personal and social skills needed to be successful in a global community)
- Provide consultation with parents, teachers, administrators to support students academically.
- Provide input and insight regarding personal, academic, social and behavioral progress of students.
- Work with teachers to ensure that all students are treated fairly
- Promote an understanding of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds
Requirements
Qualification and Skills:
- Creativity, organization and initiative in planning the counseling program for the school
- Acknowledges personal accountability for decisions and conduct.
- Averts problem situations and intervenes to solve conflicts
- Effectively uses active listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal and writing skills
- Seeks to understand cultural differences that are present in an international setting
- Adapts to a variety of situations, and is able to be flexible
- Able to use current technology
- Effectively organizes student data, planning, and projects
Education and Training Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a psychology or sociology related field
- Ability and interest to pursue continuing education
- CPR/First Aid training
Personal:
- Mature and growing Christian.
- Teachable, flexible, demonstrating sound judgement.
- Willingness to work in and adapt to a multicultural workplace.
- Philosophy of life and ministry that aligns with the policies, objectives and doctrinal position of the organization.
- Engagement in personal ministry outside the classroom.
