- Upper School Math Teacher
Description
The First Academy is a ministry of the First Baptist Church of Orlando and affirms the church’s doctrinal statements, including the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, as faithful expressions of historic evangelical Christianity.
Due to anticipated enrollment growth, The First Academy is seeking a highly qualified Upper School Mathematics Teacher to join a collaborative faculty dedicated to developing students’ logical reasoning and analytical skills through a biblical lens. The ideal candidate will be proficient in delivering a comprehensive math curriculum, ranging from foundational Algebra I and Geometry to advanced tracks including Pre-Calculus, Honors Calculus, and AP Calculus (AB/BC). We are looking for an educator who can seamlessly integrate technology and project-based learning to illustrate real-world applications of mathematical concepts, whether they are teaching Probability & Statistics data analysis or the complexities of sequences and series in AP Calculus BC. The successful candidate must be able to differentiate instruction for both College Prep and Honors levels, fostering a classroom environment that emphasizes critical thinking, proof-based logic, and the preparation of students for rigorous college-level mathematics.
Core Instructional Competencies
Algebraic Fluency & Modeling: Developing a deep understanding of operations with integers, polynomials, and radicals, and applying these to a vast variety of functions, logarithmic relationships, and exponential equations.
Geometric Reasoning & Argument: Analyzing plane, solid, and coordinate geometry through the lens of logic and proof, emphasizing the development of critical thinking skills as they relate to formal mathematical argument.
Data Synthesis & Interpretation: Equipping students with the tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data, moving beyond simple calculation to meaningful statistical inference for larger populations.
Analytical Problem Solving: Strengthening and extending concepts in functions, limits, and continuity to solve complex real-world problems encountered in advanced mathematical analysis.
Technological Integration: Utilizing graphing calculators and educational software to discover concepts, visualize functions, and automate repetitive calculations, allowing for deeper investigation into mathematical relationships.
Calculus Proficiency: Mastering the foundational pillars of calculus—derivatives and integrals—to understand rates of change and the accumulation of area and volume.
Successive Scaffolding: Ensuring students advance only after demonstrating proficiency, particularly in the transition from Algebra II to Pre-Calculus and Calculus, to build lasting confidence and competence.
