Ashton School is a private, Pk-12 U.S. type school in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, accredited by Cognia/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and members of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
We are a faith-based school that prepares students to study in universities in the United States, in the Dominican Republic or elsewhere abroad. Students receive English instruction in the core subjects, in accordance with U.S.-based curricular standards, as well as Spanish instruction in the subjects required by the local Ministry of Education. We are committed to shaping our students to become exemplary and God-loving citizens by integrating biblical principles into our academic program and organizational practices.
The Elementary School Teacher will teach English Language Arts using Teachers College Reading and Writing Project and Phonics, Math, Science and Social Studies. Subjects are taught in English. Our approach to science instruction is hands-on, making use of the school’s MakerLab and science lab, as appropriate, to teach the Next Generation of Science Standards, while integrating Biblical principles. We carry out learning expeditions for our students, whereby students engage in “meaningful tasks that have a local or global impact, solving real-life situations”. (Christian Deeper Learning/Expeditionary Learning). The teacher should be a follower of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and have a passion for leading and teaching students through a biblical worldview.
Responsibilities: Plan, develop and implement organized learning opportunities for students in accordance with the grade curriculum and at the same time reflecting the needs of the individual students. Prepare curriculum materials, including course outlines and other instructional materials. Work with the academic coordinator, principal and department head to monitor the curriculum and revise as deemed appropriate. Plan and attend Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (SPTC) with parents and students of his/her grade, prepare progress reports for his/her students for the Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC); Communicate regularly with grade parents regarding the curriculum and individual student needs in RenWeb FACTS. Plan daily homework and long term assignments in conjunction with the other grade teachers. Maintain regular communication with parents of homeroom students regarding all classroom activities and any issues that come up with their specific children. Plan and attend field work experiences for students. Attend regular team meetings to assess the needs and growth of all of the grade students. Attend a few evening activities including Back-to-school night, Open House Admission Activities, Hamburger Night, Family Fun Night, etc.

Credits in subject area and Education
Fluent or native-like English skills
Able to make at least a two-year commitment
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Education from a U.S. accredited or U.S. recognized institution
Minimum 24 credits in subject area
Teaching Certification license or one to be issued by August of 2026
Benefits
For foreign teachers who are hired abroad for the purpose of working at the school, a compensation package suitable for living expenses and savings potential in the Dominican Republic, shared housing or housing stipend, one round airfare, medical insurance, and work visa expense coverage are provided. We also provide two full scholarships for teachers' children, upon successful completion of the admissions process. Teachers who have worked with us for two years and commit to an additional two years receive financial assistance towards a Master's Degree.
Foreign teachers who are hired abroad for the purpose of working at the school will receive a suitable compensation and benefits package.
