Virunga Valley Academy seeks to hire an authentic disciple of Jesus Christ to serve as an attentive, dynamic, goal-oriented, collaborative English Language Learner (ELL)/ English Foreign Language Learner (EFL) Teacher.
Position Summary:
The ELL/EFL teacher facilitates English language development instruction for children who are acquiring English as an additional language and works collaboratively with other instructional personnel, including our Learning Support coordinator, to offer direct instruction, co-teach, and assist lead teachers with modifying instruction to meet multilingual learner needs. In addition to engaging in classroom instruction, the ELL/EFL teacher will assist with coordinating and implementing English language proficiency testing, draft subsequent student reports, and train instructional staff on best practices for teaching multilingual learners.
Duties:
Design, plan, and implement English instruction for ELL/EFL students
Monitor and assess student progress
Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to maximize student learning
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to develop language programs
Provide support and guidance to ELL/EFL students
Develop lesson plans and materials to meet individual student needs
Facilitate parent and community involvement
Participate in and facilitate staff development activities
Requirements
Qualifications & Dispositions
Fluency and literacy in English
Bachelors degree
2 years teaching experience in a K-12 school
Knowledge of language acquisition theory
Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Excellent collaborative skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Willingness to work after-hours and on weekends as required
Experience with students and families from diverse backgrounds required
Experience in an international setting preferred
