School Profile
Amazon Valley Academy
School Overview
Amazon Valley Academy (AVA) is an independent, coeducational, tuition-based international school located in Belém, Brazil. AVA provides a Pre-K through Grade 12 education for the expatriate and local Brazilian communities alike. An American college-preparatory curriculum is offered with English as the main language of instruction.
School History
Founded in 1958 by a group of mission agencies who were seeking a place to educate their children while the parents served in the precarious conditions of the interior, AVA operated as a missionary children’s boarding school for nearly 40 years. Until the late 1990s the school operated exclusively as a service for expatriate students; however, as the century drew to a close and many missionary families relocated, the school proudly opened its doors to the local Brazilian community who were interested in an international-styled American education.
