School History

History of the High School:

Cascade Christian High School had its beginnings in 1978 when Grace Christian School, a ministry of First Baptist Church of Medford, decided to begin a high school ministry. The 10th grade was added to the kindergarten through ninth grade program. A grade a year was added until the first graduating class of 1981. The school began to suffer the effects of an economic downturn along with the mounting deficit of starting, maintaining and building a high school. The church did not have the additional dollars to keep the high school section operating, especially with enrollment at only 70 students. After the graduating class of 1982, the high school was turned over to a group of dedicated parents to operate as a separate school.

In 1983 the school graduated its last class using the Grace Christian name. That summer the school was incorporated as Cascade Christian High School with operation by a parent society. In the summer of 1984, the school moved from First Baptist Church to Cornerstone Christian Church. After enrollment increased due to the closure of another Christian school, Cascade was able to move to a larger location in 1986. In 1992 a group of friends of CCHS who attended First Baptist Church decided to purchase the newly vacated Jacksonville School built at the turn of the last century.

The historic building went through a drastic refurbishing by parents and friends who invested many volunteer hours. In fall of 1999, the school became dually accredited giving full access to all schools and universities to our graduates.

After a number of leadership changes, the high school board approached Ray Johnson, Grace Christian School Superintendent at that time, about the GCS administrative team operating the high school. After formal talks in August 2002, the Grace administration worked with the board on a transition plan. In January 2003, both the Cascade Christian Parent Society and First Baptist Church voted to turn over operation of the high school to Grace Christian School.

Over twenty years after they separated, the schools were reunited as a pre-school through twelfth grade school. The high school maintains a separate corporation, accreditations and school budget, yet operates as one of four Grace Christian Schools under one Superintendent.

The high school needed more space if was to grow and many sites had been looked at. After the merger of the schools, generous benefactors offered a former indoor soccer complex in Medford for a school location. After many answers to prayer the Jacksonville site was re-zoned, sold, the new site re-zoned, additional property purchased and millions of dollars and services pledged to allow a new building to built. In the fall of 2007 Cascade Christian moved into the brand new high school building at 855 Chevy Way in Medford Oregon. An undeveloped 7.5 acre city park/field contiguous to the school was leased and built in the Spring of 2009. Our 14 million dollar 12.5 acre campus sits between two freeway exits near the Medford/ Jackson County International Airport on Bear Creek in the North Eastern part of the City. We give God the glory for His gracious gift!

The high school is committed to excellence. A team visit brought about an accreditation by Association of Christian Schools International and AdvancED until June 2015. The team noted our exceptional program and outstanding staff.
