Redeemer Classicial Christian School
School Overview
Redeemer Classical Christian School (RCCS) is located in a rural setting in Baltimore County approximately 10 miles northeast of Baltimore City. The school offers a Pre-K through 12th grade college preparatory program utilizing the classical approach to education. The foundation of all instruction at RCCS is the truth as found in the Scriptures. The school, founded in 1996, currently has over 250 students.
Redeemer Classical Christian School is a member of the Association of Classical and Christian Schools and the Association of Christian Schools International. We are accredited with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
With ever-evolving, rapidly changing cultural and geo-political forces reshaping our daily lives, thinking, articulate people are always in demand. Those who are able to acquire new skills rapidly and independently are sought after regardless of the field. Classical Christian education has a proven track record of turning out these types of students. RCCS delivers extraordinary results by employing proven methods tested for centuries. All RCCS students are required to take Latin, Logic, Rhetoric and Economics. Students also receive Bible instruction in every grade. These requirements, in addition to the typical courses in language, math, science, etc., make for a very demanding and rigorous program. RCCS students perform approximately 3 years above their grade level on the standardized tests. Redeemer students' SAT scores also rank well above the national average. As a result, 100% of our graduates pursue further education. But RCCS is not all work and no play. An extensive extra curricular program is part of the educational experience. These activities include: Band (2 bands), Choirs (2 choirs), Drama productions, Sports (soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country), 19th Century Ball, annual Luau, annual Talent Show, school dances, Homecoming games and events, grade level field trips, Junior Ring Event, Senior Class European Trip, Senior Formal, annual mission trip etc. In addition to these activities, students can take part in the annual Science Fair, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, Mission Trip opportunities and various enrichment classes and clubs. School History
The history of Redeemer Classical Christian School began in the spring of 1994. A member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church became acquainted with the classical model of education while attending a conference in Florida. She returned, excited about the possibility of Redeemer starting a classical school of its own. That September, three members of Redeemer visited a classical school in Delaware. Impressed with what they saw, they sought information from the Logos School in Moscow, Idaho, founded in 1981 as the first classical Christian school in contemporary America.
By fall of 1994, a group of six members met weekly to pray and begin the organization process. The process continued throughout 1995. There was no money set aside, no paid personnel, and no school buildings or students, just a calling from the Lord and a vision of what could be. The church decided in January 1996 that the time was right, so with great prayer and faith the church began holding informational meetings for interested parents. Despite the fact that nothing resembling a school existed, parents caught the vision. The church gave $1,000 for the first curriculum and renovated a carriage house for classrooms and chapel. Enrollment grew, and by September 1996 the school opened with 39 students.
We have seen the Lord’s hand in every aspect of our growth. The Redeemer Classical Christian School experience is one of faith and answered prayer, demonstrating how God works through ordinary people to accomplish His extraordinary purpose. Redeemer will complete its 19th year in June 2015.
