School Overview

Santiago Christian School is a richly diverse, private, English-language, international Christian school located in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Consistent with our mission to form personas íntegras who reflect Jesus in character, wisdom, and influence, we recruit called and qualified professionals who demonstrate a personal passion for growing in spiritual maturity, pursuing professional development, and fostering a school-wide community of grace. SCS serves Dominican families, missionary families, and the international business community, so to teach at SCS is to live out our motto: Shaping the Lives of Those who will Shape the Nation.

Successful candidates are native English speakers who have an understanding of or experience with English as a Second Language immersion strategies in the classroom. Basic understanding of Spanish is helpful, but not required. Candidates must have a U.S. state teacher license/certificate as well as evidence of an evangelical Christian faith commitment. Two years of experience is preferred and previous international teaching experience is a plus. We pay a basic salary adequate for local living. Initial commitment is three or five years with generous corresponding benefits.

School History

Founded in 1967 by evangelical missionaries seeking a solid educational option for their children, Santiago Christian School provides an English-immersion, college-preparatory, PK3 to grade 12 education recognized by universities in the Dominican Republic, the United States, and beyond. Today, our students come from a mix of local Dominican, missionary, and international business families.Best-practices in teaching and high-quality curriculum are brought to life by faculty who come to SCS from around the world to make a difference in each child’s life. Our teachers are professionals who blend a passion for their craft with a passion for leading children to follow Jesus.

SCS is regionally accredited in the United States by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and by Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). SCS is recognized by the Dominican Ministry of Education as a “monolingual” school, a designation which allows us to offer all curricula (with the exception of Spanish, French, and Dominican social studies) in English. A school-wide, multi-layered student leadership and justice development program trains students of all ages to lead like Jesus: By serving. Students regularly serve their peers in five SCS partner schools in surrounding communities. Students start and finish their high school experience with multidisciplinary justice projects designed to get them started on a lifetime journey of advocating for justice in the Dominican Republic and around the world.

Santiago Christian School pays an adequate wage for local living and generous benefits. Salaries are paid in U.S. dollars.
