School Profile
Timothy Christian Academy
School Overview
The mission of Timothy Christian Academy is to provide students with a Christ-centered education which promotes academic excellence and encourages students to develop and use their unique gifts and abilities to serve God and others. The school serves approximately 240 children from preschool through eighth grade in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, a Burlington County suburb just east of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Established in 1984, TCA enjoys a well-grounded relationship with its founding church, The First Baptist Church of Mt. Holly, and with the local community at-large. TCA is dually accredited with Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSACESS).
School History
In the mid-1980s, a few members of First Baptist Church of Mount Holly recognized the need for a daycare ministry to provide childcare services for FBCMH families. The informal daycare/preschool program was established, meeting in the basement of the church's previous location on Garden Street, Mount Holly. As the children approached school age, the group of parents, after much prayer and several meetings, felt led by the Lord to develop a weekday teaching ministry for children of church members. They planned to open that service to include non-FBCMH children in Mount Holly and surrounding communities. The decision was made to start Timothy Christian Academy as a preschool and kindergarten. The school would be incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, financed through tuition and governed by a parent Board. And so, TCA was born. The founding mission statement was “...to provide a quality Christian education in a safe and caring environment.” Later, the motto “where every child is honored” was added.
The school was incorporated in 1984 and established bylaws, a parent board, and a handful of initial policies. The first classes were held in 1986 with 21 preschool students and one kindergarten class. Enrollment expanded as each year progressed, and although there was no intentional plan to expand, the school added one grade each year to continue serving the enrolled children. By 2001, TCA was offering classes from preschool to fifth grade and expanded shortly thereafter to include a middle school program.
Today, TCA has a robust preschool program consisting of 4 classes of preschool and pre-kindergarten age children. Preschool enrollment is approximately at 90 students. Our engaging K-8 program has one class per grade level with class sizes of up to 24 students with K-8 enrollment at approximately 140 students. TCA has been blessed with consistent increases in enrollment, year after year, for the past 10 years. God's faithfulness to the school has been evident as He has continued to provide the means to provide challenging and enriching program to our students while providing opportunities for children to grow in their relationship with Christ while establishing a biblical worldview from a young age. The school board, administration, staff, and parent body remain committed to the school's mission.to "provide students with a Christ-centered education which promotes academic excellence and encourages students to develop and use their unique gifts and abilities to serve God and others".
