UCiC School
School Overview
The name UCiC expresses our desire to see life from God’s viewpoint. Our request is for God to reveal Himself so we can say what “You See, I See”. At UCiC we strive to see in our students the potential that God sees for them. He has gifted each boy and girl with special talents, abilities, attributes and styles of learning and loving that are unique. Our teachers are skilled in building on children’s strengths, overcoming weaknesses, enhancing God-honoring character and developing leaders.
The UCiC community is centered around children and students from infants to children 12 years of age. These children come from families of various ethnicity, including Southeast Asian, Korean, Chinese, Indonesian, African, African-American, and Caucasian. Many of these families have recently arrived in the United States and many of the parents are here on work visas. The UCiC facility is located in the North Creek/Monte Villa industrial area, and many of the parents and guardians are employed by the surrounding businesses.
Another significant portion of the UCiC community comes specifically from families associated with the Community Church of Seattle, a member of the American Presbytery. The church is the largest Korean American church in the Northwest, and is closely allied with smaller Korean churches in the greater Seattle area. Children of pastors serving n these churches receive a significant discount as a perquisite of church employment. The church not only has strong connections in the Puget Sound area, but with Korean churches across the United States and in Asia. During the summer months, families in Korea will send their children to UCiC in order to improve their English language abilities.
All staff members employed by UCiC must sign and support a CCS doctrinal statement, and they must be practicing Christians – meaning they are active in one of the many local Christian churches. Full time elementary teachers must hold valid Washington State teaching credentials. Part time elementary specialist teachers must either hold a valid teaching certificate or have extensive experience in their area of specialty (art, music, language, etc.) All elementary teachers are currently female with an average classroom experience of around five years. The socio-economic level of all stakeholders and the surrounding community can be generally described as upper-middle income. UCiC Learning Center is located within the boundaries of the Northshore School District and most of its students matriculate to NSD schools.
