School Profile
United Christian Academy
School Overview
United Christian Academy (formerly known as Upland Christian Academy) is an accredited, college and career preparatory school located in Rancho Cucamonga, California. We serve nearly 600 students in grades K-12. Our students come from Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, and the surrounding Inland Empire communities. As of Fall 2011, we opened enrollment to international students from all over the world!
UC Academy is an independent, non-denominational Christian school that operates under the ownership and governance of a self-perpetuating School Board of Trustees. All Board members and employees are required to be growing Christians whose lives exemplify the beliefs and practices outlined in the school’s Statement of Faith and Christian Conduct. Parents and students are not required to be Christians to attend the school; however, they are required to be supportive of the school’s mission, philosophy, and doctrinal position. We are grateful to have many strong Christian families in our school, and we are just as welcoming of those in search of faith and spiritual growth.
School History
UC Academy was established in 1978 as a ministry of Upland First Church of the Nazarene, operating under the name Ninth Street Christian School and later as Upland Christian Schools. The school was originally located in Upland, California, and only offered elementary grades. A junior high school was added in 1992, and a pre-school and high school were added in 1994.
In 2008, the Nazarene Church wanted to merge Upland Christian (UC) with another Christian school to form a large school district. Many in the school community believed that such a merger would cause UC to lose many of the strengths and distinct characteristics that make the school so special. One of those distinctives is keeping the school smaller so faculty and staff can have personal, nurturing relationships with individual students. A smaller school also affords more opportunities for students and parents to participate in the life and leadership of the school. Led by a group of dedicated parents, the school connected with Abundant Living Family Church (ALFC). ALFC graciously agreed to host the school on their new 30-acre campus in Rancho Cucamonga, California. With 350 students, the school re-constituted as an independent Christian school and began operating as Upland Christian Academy in 2009.
While losing the Upland campus was traumatic for the school community, the trauma turned out to be a tremendous blessing because God has positioned the school for a greater work. It is remarkable to witness how God preserved and planted the school in Rancho Cucamonga, a vibrant and growing community. We are proud of our new home, and we look forward to serving and growing with this wonderful community. In 2017, the school changed its name to United Christian Academy (also known as UC Academy and UCA) to better identify with our new surroundings.
