Valley Christian School
School Overview
Valley Christian School has a proud heritage here in the Fox Valley. VCS celebrates its 40th year this 2013-2014 school year and is very pleased to be offering an outstanding educational experience to families from all over Winnebago, Outagamie, Waushara, and Fond du Lac counties.
Formerly known as Oshkosh Christian School/Valley Christian High School, this year the school has unified its name and is now known as Valley Christian School. Brad Dunn is Valley Christian School’s Head Administrator. Mr. Dunn comes from a long history in Christian Education and business. Mr. Dunn plans not only to carry on the tradition of excellence at VCS but to raise the bar as well.
“We partner with families; we want parents to trust that the values they instill and expectations they hold for their children at home are reinforced at school.”
The VCS student body is made up of families that include over 40 area churches. The school program includes K3 – 12th Grades. “We have an integrated curriculum with proven results. We have taken an aggressive phonics approach to reading,” says Mr. Dunn. For example, in national exams that measure reading, language and mathematics, VCS Kindergarteners’ combined average score is in the 93rd percentile of all kindergartners in the nation. “This is head and shoulders above the national average and is an exceptional foundation for a child’s educational career,” Says Dunn. “This aggressive program is carried throughout the school and is also evident in the test scores of our high school students.” Valley Christian High School students are scoring higher on the ACT college entrance exam than most of their Fox Valley counterparts. Valley Christian High School students had an average ACT composite score of 24.1 in 2013. According to ACT, that compares to scores of 22.1 in Wisconsin and 21.1 nationally.
Valley Christian boasts an exceptional fine arts program, and with good reason. Art from the VCS program has received countless ribbons in numerous art shows “From local to state shows our students regularly bring home numerous 1st place awards and sweep 2D and 3D categories. VCS brought home an unheard of number of 1st place ribbons from the Trailways Art Show this year and at the 2013 Helen Mears State Art Competition, we brought home 1st place in the 3D category. Our art teacher, Mr. Landwehr, has a unique ability not only to teach the students how to draw but to educate them about art.” Says Principal, Steve Masseth. The results of this program speak for themselves.
Valley Christian School Cross Country Team celebrated their own Luke Geffers who was the Trailways Conference Champion and who placed 16th at the WIAA State Championship. Boys and girls cross-country teams both named runners to the 1st and 2nd All-Conference Teams and set school records in a fantastic year of a growing program. The VCS Track Team had a great year as well. In their first year of competition, the track team produced the Trailways Conference Champion in 3200m and 2nd place in the 1600m, both titles held by Luke Geffers who also placed 11th in the State Finals. In Boys Basketball, VCS had two players named to the All Conference Team, Tyler Van Maanen 1st Team and Ryan Van Maanen 2nd Team. Tyler also joined the coveted club of 1,000 point scorers during his high school career.
In 8-man Football VCS had two players named 1st Team All Conference and two players to 2nd Team. Tyler Van Maanen and Devin Moonin and also were invited to the 1st Annual All-Star game held Rice Lake WI.
Valley Christians School strives for excellence in all things including serving the community with their annual serve-a-thon and required service hours for high school students. High school students also do missions trips both domestic and abroad each year. Mr. Dunn explains, “We’re interested in the entire student. We partner with families; we want parents to trust that the values they instill and expectations the hold for their children at home are reinforced at school.
