School Overview
Ventura Missionary School (K-8) Located in Ventura, California
Ventura Missionary School (VMS) is located on the campus of Ventura Missionary Church (VMC), a vibrant fellowship with a strong presence in the community. It maintains its campus in the foothills with views of the Pacific. Its mission is to live and share the transforming love of Jesus. It was in this environment that VMS, a vital ministry of VMC, was founded in 1980. VMC wanted to offer another educational choice to the community, and parishioners who were public school administrators, created a school that offered a Christian education with excellence, academic rigor, and a Biblical worldview. VMS is arts-enriched, and students receive weekly instruction in music, art, computers, and Spanish by specialty teachers in those subjects.
VMS students and families enjoy surfing, biking, hiking, local museums, and community parks in the coastal town of Ventura, California. Known for its rolling hills, ocean views, great surfing conditions, and safe beaches, Ventura is a relaxed town, located between Malibu and Santa Barbara on the Pacific coast. The median age in Ventura is 39 years, and the ethnic demographic is approximately two-thirds Caucasian and one-third Hispanic. VMS is home to approximately 400 students who come from Ventura and the surrounding communities of Oxnard, Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula and Fillmore, bringing together a diverse group of multicultural and interdenominational relationships. The Ventura Unified School District includes 17 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 5 high schools.
VMS fosters a supportive and engaging environment providing an education that addresses the whole child; intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual. VMS graduates are courted by Ventura’s local high schools, for they have a reputation in the community as leaders and scholars.
