School Profile

Weihai Zhongshi International School

School Overview

WZIS (Weihai Zhongshi International School) is a small private Christian international school serving a predominately South Korean ex-pat community in Weihai, China. Our mission is to create servant leaders that will go from China to the World. Our core values of respect, wisdom, responsibility, self expression, and holistic education form the foundation of everything that we do.

WZIS is a 1-12 school with approximately 150 students. Our curriculum is based on the UK National Curriculum and we offer Cambridge IGCSE and A Level courses in high school. In February 2016 we received 6-year accreditation terms from WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). WZIS may be a small school but we have a strong sense of community and our students thrive in the nurturing environment. We teach all subjects in English and the majority of our students have English as a second language. The school environment is positive and classroom behaviour is generally excellent. WZIS also offers an extensive extracurricular program and our students regularly excel in local, regional, and national competitions.

School History

WZIS is part of a larger organisation called WZKIS (Weihai Zhongshi Korean International School). WZKIS was founded in 1999 by a Korean missionary called Mr. Moody Lee. It originally served the local Chinese population. Due to the hard work and dedication of the staff WZKIS quickly gained a positive reputation in the community and Mr. Lee was encouraged to found three schools; a kindergarten, a Korean school, and an international school.

WZIS first opened in 2006 under the name ZKIS. It grew quickly from the original 52 students and there are now over 150 students enrolled across grades 1-12. Due to the fast expansion WZIS moved to a purpose built site on the outside of Weihai city in May, 2010. The site has since been expanded to include a school dormitory which was opened in August, 2014.

WZIS was visited in March, 2013 to begin the process of receiving joint accreditation with WASC and ACSI. In February, 2016 a six term period of accreditation with both organisations was granted. This was a testimony to the continual provision of God and the outstanding work of His servants over the ten years of the schools existence.

WZIS is proud of its tight community and positive, friendly atmosphere. Students are able to quickly see the strong, guiding beliefs of their teachers and every year we celebrate young people coming to faith. Engaging classes provide a stimulating curriculum and every year we expand our educational and extracurricular programs to provide new opportunities. Notable examples include our school orchestra, soccer teams, annual school plays, success in the national Intel Science Fair, and our extensive electives program. We are thankful that the Lord has continued to send excellent teachers to make this possible.
