Westlake Christian Academy

School Overview

Founded in 1972 as the Waukegan Christian School, Westlake is a Preschool-12th grade independent, evangelical, coeducational, college-preparatory school whose families represent over 55 different churches in the area. We operate as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a self-perpetuating board of directors. Westlake provides a well-rounded education which includes academic preparation, athletics, fine arts, and community service in a nondenominational, evangelical context. This context is established on the foundation of discipleship in Jesus Christ. Every aspect of Westlake is geared to the spiritual growth of our students.

At Westlake Christian Academy, discipleship is a function of scholarship:

Teachers cultivate higher order critical thinking skills in the context of a Christian world view
Science instruction emphasizes hands-on experiences for skill development
Every educator is academically and spiritually qualified and displays Christ-like integrity
Students are trained in technology, music, drama, and the visual arts
Students experience opportunities for athletic development through physical education and team sports

School History

The Waukegan Christian School was founded and incorporated as a non profit educational organization in the spring of 1972 by a group of Christian parents. Their chief desire was to honor the Lord by providing a quality, Christ centered education for their children as an alternative to the public educational system. The school started with fifty five students and continued to grow, serving primarily eastern Lake County communities. In 1995 while meeting in a facility in Gurnee, the name of the school was changed to Westlake Christian Academy to emphasize the vision for a more regional institution with a strong academic focus to serve its spiritual mission.

For the first 29 years of its existence, the school occupied a number of leased facilities in Zion, Waukegan, and Gurnee. Since 2002, in order to serve all of Lake County, Westlake has been centrally located in Grayslake and settled in its own facility. The school reaches a great number of communities and has the opportunity to provide quality Christ-centered education to families throughout the county.
