Job Summary
Genesis Christian School is seeking a full-time elementary classroom teacher for our 5th grade students. Successful Applicants must possess a degree and a teaching certificate would preferred. We are a Christian school, and as such, all applicants are asked to sign a statement of faith agreement.
The candidate will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment favorable to student learning and personal spiritual growth. Develops lesson plans consistent with established guidelines for all subjects. Establish effective rapport with students, staff members, and parents. Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge to provide an effective educational foundation, in accordance with each student’s ability.
Responsibilities and Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction/Education Responsibilities
- Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the school’s Christian philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
- Presents subject matter to students to maximize learning opportunities and provides real-world, application-based examples and learning opportunities.
- Review student records in order to develop a foundation of understanding regarding each student’s abilities and needs. Maintain accurate and complete student records.
- Strives to maximize the educational and spiritual achievement of each student.
- Utilizes a variety/range of student learning modalities in each lesson and uses differentiated instruction within those lessons.
- Maintains accurate and completes student records.
- Assesses student strengths and weaknesses on a frequent basis, provides appropriate activities to address student needs, and generates progress reports as required.
- Refers students with suspected learning problems to appropriate support personnel.
- Assigns lessons, corrects student work product, and reviews oral presentations.
- Coordinates class field trips (as required).
- Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to continually share this knowledge to improve the school's curriculum.
- Assists in the ongoing curriculum revision process.
Provide a Classroom Environment Conducive to Learning
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Maintains positive rapport with students; demonstrates patience and appropriate nurturing to assist in the growth of the child.
- Ensures classroom is clean safe, and includes student-generated work on display as appropriate.
- Implements all relevant policies governing student conduct.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom/playground behavior per GCS policy and guidelines and maintains order in the classroom fairly and consistently.
Instructional Planning
- Develops lesson plans consistent with established guidelines and goals.
- Plans individual and/or group learning activities to meet instructional objectives and student needs.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation upon request of supervisory personnel.
- Participates with other staff members in curriculum planning during designated meetings.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials and facilities needed to implement the planned instructional program effectively.

A. Christian Teacher Job Description
General Description:
The teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God. A teacher at Genesis Christian School is under the direction of the administration, is delegated by the parents and enabled by the Holy Spirit. He/she should have the spiritual gift of teaching. The teacher is a nurturer of students who guides them in their pursuit of knowledge. The teacher is to serve as a Christian Role Model in and out of school.
Qualifications:
The teacher shall be one who has received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and has a biblical world and life view. The teacher shall attend an evangelical church and shall lead a Christ-filled life. He/she shall be a person of spiritual maturity with academic and leadership abilities that will allow him/her to “train up a child in the way he should go.” The teacher shall honor Christ in every class and in every activity. The teacher shall be a mature Christian who is academically qualified and who feels called by God to the teaching profession. If the full-time teacher has a child in Pre-K through 8th grade who would be eligible for admission to GCS, It is preferred that teachers and staff enroll their children at GCS (this should be discussed with the administration).
Contracted by:

Student teachers, aides, volunteers, and students.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Spiritual- The teacher shall:
- Seek to be a role model in attitude, speech and actions through a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- Have a lifestyle that is above reproach and includes a study of the Word, an attitude of prayer and Christian winsomeness.
- Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff and administration.
- Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
- Be close enough to students to know struggles, concerns and pressures. Serve as an effective counselor. Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
Instructional- The teacher shall:
- Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their child’s education and assist them in the task.
- Teach classes as assigned following prescribed scope and sequence of academic content as scheduled by the administration, using the prescribed curriculum according to the school’s philosophy.
- Plan well through the use of unit objectives, and more current through the use of weekly lesson plans.
- Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education into all aspects of the curriculum.
- Challenge students to reach their full potential in every area of learning while being sensitive not to frustrate them by asking more than they are developmentally ready to do.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his/her best work and to relate well to a variety of tasks and of personality.
- Employ a variety of instructional aides, methods, materials and techniques that will provide for clear and palatable instruction to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social and emotional.
- Plan through approved channels the balanced use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media.
- Use homework consistently, according to school homework guidelines, effectively for drill, review, enrichment or project work.
- Assess student’s progress against established norms on a regular basis and provide reports as required.
- Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good teaching environment.
- Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher for use when absent.
- Return all graded tests and student work in a timely manner.
- Make timely postings of grades, assignments, lesson plans, etc. on RenWeb.
Non-Instructional- The teacher shall:
- Cooperate with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
- Notify the Principal of any policy he/she is unable to support with an explanation.
- Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records of each student online. Be proficient at sending grade books electronically to the administration as scheduled and uploading all relevant information, i.e. grades, activities, reports, tests, etc. to RenWeb.
- Consistently and continually communicate with parents. Modes of communication can include RenWeb posts, e-mail, phone calls, conferences, and/or class newsletters. Communications should include classroom expectations and events, as well as the progress of their child.
- Keep the Principal well informed of student problems, especially if they require a meeting with parents.
- Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom without visible clutter.
- Supervise extra-curricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.
- Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.
Professional- The teacher shall:
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
- Seek the counsel of the administration, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
- Share ideas and recommendations for the administrative and managerial functions in the school while understanding their specific role.
- Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, in-service seminars, committee, faculty meetings, taking leadership when appropriate.
- Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.
- Contribute to the general improvement of the school program including the continuous evaluation and updating measurable goals and objectives.
- Refuse to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration.
- Attain and maintain ACSI certification and/or Florida State Certification.
Personal– The teacher shall:
- Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality.
- Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
- Respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority.
- Maintain a personal appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and in agreement with school policy.
- Use correct English in written and oral communication. Speak with a clear articulation.
- Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the constituency and general public.
- Refrain from participating in gossip.
- Place the teaching ministry ahead of outside or volunteer work.
- Make an effort to appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the community.
