Description
The Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction (APCI) is an instructional leader who coaches teachers, oversees teaching and learning, and shapes school culture in line with CISP’s mission to provide an education from a Biblical perspective that is academically excellent and practically oriented within a loving community. This role is self-supported.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serve as a high-quality, deliberate coach and effective manager to help teachers and students reach their full potential.
Ensure teachers design and deliver instruction aligned with grade-level standards and individual student needs.
Collaborate with the leadership team to build a school-wide culture rooted in shared goals, mutual respect, empathy, and appreciation of diversity.
Responsible for the overview of curriculum maps and lesson plans.
Design and deliver Professional Development to Staff
Direct and facilitate the 3 Phase Teacher Development process of teacher observation and evaluation
Serve as MAP testing coordinator
Coordinate with the Accreditation Head as necessary
Advise teachers on all things academic-related; assists the Principal as necessary
Serve (according to time availability) as a substitute teacher for all grade levels.
INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
Professional Development
Coach and develop teachers to lay the foundations for successful classrooms: an ambitious vision and goals, purposeful long- and unit-level plans, rigorous assessments, strong relationships, and positive classroom cultures.
Observe teachers informally weekly to gather data on student learning and teacher proficiency, consistently diagnose their strengths and weaknesses, and determine strategies to improve their practice and student learning.
Provide various relevant learning opportunities for teachers focused on analyzing student work, effective planning, targeted and differentiated instruction, and high expectations for classroom culture and behavior.
Serve on the Leadership Team; collaborate with the team to determine school-wide professional development, curriculum, and assessment needs.
Provide professional development; assist with the development of and oversee new-staff orientation; assist teachers in developing and implementing Individual Professional Development Plans.
Provide and track Christian Philosophy of Education for all teachers (an ACSI requirement).
Data Analysis
Use data to inform decision-making, develop and modify curriculum, and deliver targeted and differentiated instruction.
Meet regularly with teachers to discuss data trends and identify and implement instructional changes based on the data that will most impact student learning.
School Culture and Mission
Work with the school leadership team to implement the school’s mission.
Assist with the creation of a positive school culture among staff, parents, and students.
Communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with parents/guardians about curricular and academic needs, while remaining sensitive to each family's culture, values, and needs.
OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP
Assist in interviewing candidates when requested.
Assist in planning and implementing the training of new teachers.
Determine the need for curricular, assessment, and instructional resources; communicate ordering needs to the Finance Manager.
Facilitate and manage the Atlas curriculum software and provide teacher training and instruction.
Conduct meetings with departments as needed, or as directed by the Leadership Team.
Assist the principal in overseeing Student Teachers.
PROFESSIONALISM
Collaborate with the Leadership Team to continuously improve personal practice, classroom instruction, assessment, and student learning in view of the mission of the school.
Access and implement meaningful learning experiences (current theory, research, and developments in relevant academic disciplines, professional development opportunities, and ideas from colleagues and supervisors).
Reflect critically on instructional leadership experience and effectively utilize feedback; identify areas for further professional development and take proactive steps towards growth in these areas.
Use feedback to inform and update Individual Professional Development Plans.
