Description
Plymouth Christian Academy is seeking a full-time Band Director to lead and develop instrumental music instruction for students in grades 5–12. The Band Director is responsible for cultivating students’ musical abilities while fostering spiritual, emotional, social, and academic growth within a Christ-centered environment.
This individual will encourage students to develop musical excellence, teamwork, confidence, discipline, and an appreciation for the arts through rehearsals, performances, and classroom instruction. The Band Director will also collaborate with administration and faculty to support school events, ceremonies, and productions that enhance the overall student experience.
Key Responsibilities
The Band Director will:
- Teach instrumental music to students in grades 5–12
- Recruit, encourage, and maintain student participation in band programs and activities
- Plan, rehearse, and direct musical performances for the school and community, including a minimum of two evening performances annually
- Develop engaging lessons and rehearsals that build musical skill, confidence, teamwork, and performance ability
- Collaborate with administration to provide music for school productions, chapels, graduation ceremonies, and special events
- Coordinate and schedule rehearsals, concerts, and performances in cooperation with the Superintendent and administration
- Supervise students participating in all band-related activities and events
- Maintain communication with parents regarding performances, expectations, schedules, and student progress
- Support and uphold school expectations, policies, and student conduct standards
- Foster a Christ-centered classroom environment that reflects the mission and values of Plymouth Christian Academy
Specific Responsibilities
- Elementary Band – 5th and 6th grade
- Concert Band – 7th and 8th grade
- Symphonic Band – High School
- Jazz Band – High School
- Music Theory Elective – Has traditionally been offered every other year to meet class size requirements.
- Pep Band – Students in grades 8-12 combine to perform at athletic events outside of normal school hours.
- Pit Orchestra – The Band Director is expected to direct the pit orchestra for the Spring Musical. The orchestra is comprised of local professionals and qualified students.
- SOAR/Spiritual Life Groups – The Band Director may be called upon to supervise a SOAR class and/or lead a Spiritual Life Group as needed

Personal Qualifications
The qualified individual is expected to demonstrate patience, humility, integrity, kindness, and professionalism while performing daily responsibilities.
In faithful Christian living, the Band Director is expected to:
- Be committed to a consistent, daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- Believe that the Bible is God’s Word and the standard for faith and daily living.
- Model biblical principles in attitude, speech, and actions toward others (Luke 6:40).
- Be actively involved and faithful to a local church whose Statement of Faith aligns with the school’s Statement of Faith.
- Demonstrate by example the importance of Scripture study, prayer, witnessing, and unity within the Body of Christ.
- Support and uphold the school’s Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education.
- Demonstrate spiritual maturity and personal leadership qualities that nurture and encourage students.
Qualifications - Valid Michigan Teacher Certification in Instrumental Music Education preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field preferred
- Experience directing band programs and student performances preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, staff, and administration
- Ability to organize rehearsals, performances, and student participation effectively
- Passion for developing students musically, spiritually, and personally
- Ability to foster a positive, disciplined, and engaging learning environment
