Description: Mt. Bethel Christian Academy is seeking a full-time Director of The Film Academy and Digital Media Production Teacher. This position includes teaching courses in both the middle and upper school divisions while providing leadership and vision for a growing Film Academy program.
The Film Academy has become an integral part of the Upper School experience, culminating in a Capstone film project process for advanced students. The incoming director will step into a program with ongoing Capstone projects already in development, requiring thoughtful continuity, mentorship, and guidance.
Additionally, the program includes the Eagle Wings Film Festival, a highly anticipated annual showcase of student work that celebrates excellence in storytelling and production.
General Qualifications:
Be innovative and enthusiastic with his or her approach to teaching and should embrace the independent school model of mentoring, advising, and supporting students outside of the classroom.
Collaborate regularly with the fine & performing arts department to create units of study that are appropriate and academically rigorous.
Understand and be able to implement a variety of instructional methods to stimulate and support students’ learning and understanding.
Maintain an open line of communication with parents and colleagues and provide appropriate information following the Matthew 18 principle.
Assess student performance and progress to ensure they are mastering skills on a regular basis.
Nurture positive and encouraging relationships with students and maintain appropriate classroom management.
Integrate Biblical truth and worldview throughout lessons and instruction.
Specific Responsibilities:
Instruction and Program Development
Teach digital media and film courses in both Middle and Upper School
Design engaging, project-based curriculum emphasizing:
Storytelling and narrative development
Cinematography and visual composition
Editing techniques (pacing, sound, color grading)
Media literacy and discernment through a biblical worldview
Develop and guide longer-form student film projects, including narrative and documentary work
Lead and mentor students through the Capstone film production process
Foster a program culture that values both technical excellence and compelling storytelling
Production and Technical Skills
Full understanding of the video production process: pre-production, production, and post-production
Ability to teach and utilize the Adobe Creative Suite (especially Premiere Pro)
Familiarity with a variety of video production tools, platforms, and editing systems
Ability to instruct students on various camera systems, lighting, and audio equipment
Experience with live production environments (audio/video integration)
Design engaging, project-based lessons that develop: Storytelling and narrative structure, cinematography and composition, the production process, editing techniques (cutting, pacing, sound, color), and media analysis and discernment
Ability to use and teach using various camera systems and associated film and video production tools
Oversee student-led media projects such as: short films, documentaries, promotional videos, school broadcasts, podcasts, and marketing materials
Manage and maintain media equipment: cameras, lighting, audio gear, editing labs / software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro)
Student Experience & Opportunities
Oversee student-led media projects such as:
Short films
Documentaries
Promotional and storytelling content
School broadcasts, podcasts, and marketing materials
Develop and lead a student media team and/or film club
Coordinate student participation in the Eagle Wings Film Festival
Prepare students to produce high-quality portfolio work and demo reels for college and career readiness
Coordinate coverage of school events (athletics, chapel, performances)
Support Admissions/Advancement through media content creation
Robust understanding of live production, including audio and video
Understand the tools and resources available on a laptop and Google Suite as well as experience using online learning platforms.
Leadership & Program Oversight
Provide vision and leadership for the continued growth of the Film Academy program
Oversee:
Equipment purchasing and upgrades
Equipment maintenance and inventory
Editing labs and software systems
Promote the Film Academy within the school community and externally
Support Admissions and Advancement through strategic media content creation
Help define and prioritize program responsibilities to ensure sustainability and excellence
Operations & Event Coverage
Coordinate coverage of school events (athletics, chapel, performances, special events)
Manage workflow and student involvement in media production across campus
Balance teaching responsibilities with production and event needs through strategic prioritization
Requirements
Requirements:
Passion for the school’s mission; full agreement with MBCA’s Statement of Faith & Doctrinal Statements
Degree or certification in film, media production, broadcasting, or related field
Preferred minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Demonstrated real-world production experience (preferred)
Professional portfolio or demo reel showcasing production work (strongly preferred)
