Description
Forest Lake Christian School is seeking a High School/Middle School English Teacher to serve a vital role in shaping the spiritual, academic, and personal development of students. This position has the option for either part-time or full-time work. The teacher will create a dynamic and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to develop a biblical worldview, ask questions, think critically, and grow in their faith. This role requires the teacher to provide rigorous instruction in English literature, composition, grammar, and research as well as guide students in a deeper understanding of Scripture, theology, and the application of biblical truth to contemporary life by helping them navigate real-world issues.
The position includes faithfully implementing the school’s established English curriculum while also developing thoughtful, well-structured lesson plans that align with academic standards and spiritual objectives. The teacher will utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet learning needs, ensuring that course content is both meaningful and relevant for all students. Beyond academic instruction, the English Teacher serves as a spiritual mentor and role model, demonstrating Christ-like character and fostering meaningful relationships with students.
The ideal candidate is passionate about discipleship and committed to partnering with parents, faculty, and administration to support students’ academic and spiritual formation. They will actively contribute to the broader life of the school by participating in chapel services, student activities, and community events, helping to cultivate a vibrant and Christ-centered school culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach high school and middle school English courses aligned with curriculum standards
- Develop and implement academically strong lesson plans
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage learners
- Assess and monitor student progress and provide feedback
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and grades
- Integrate biblical principles and Christian worldview into instruction and classroom culture
- Create a positive, respectful, and spiritually encouraging classroom environment
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations
- Work with parents as partners in education and build strong relationships with students
- Contribute to a supportive culture of collaboration with colleagues and administration to support school programs and initiatives
- Participate in chapel, staff meetings, professional development, and school events
- Support the mission, vision, and values of the FLCS community
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Secondary Education, or a related field
- Valid teaching credential preferred (or willingness to obtain a credential)
- Experience teaching middle and/or high school students preferred
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A personal commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of Christian education
