Administrator/Superintendent
Job Description
Principal Functions:
The Administrator serves as the chief administrative officer of First Baptist Academy (FBA). Reporting to the Executive Pastor, he/she is also responsible to the FBA Committee for overseeing all aspects of the academy’s operations, including academic and spiritual leadership, financial management and stewardship, staff and faculty supervision, and program administration. The Administrator will champion the mission of FBA, ensuring a safe, Christ-centered educational environment for all students.
Training and Experience:
Training: The administrator must have a degree in education and a valid Texas teaching or principal certification or Association of Christian Schools (ACSI) certification. It is desirable for he/she to have a master’s degree in Christian School Administration or a master’s degree in education.
Experience: The administrator should have significant administrative and/or teaching experience in Christian education with a knowledge of Christian curricula. He/she must have leadership experience in an administrative capacity, such as principal, school board, vice-principal, or educational supervisor.
Personal Characteristics:
1. Be a member of First Baptist Church of Universal City or willing to become one.
2. Be a person of spiritual maturity who is committed to the service of Jesus Christ through Christian education. He/she must have the spiritual understanding and biblical knowledge to counsel students, teachers, and parents.
3. Be willing to work as a member of the pastor’s staff, accepting assigned responsibilities under his supervision.
4. Be a role model in attitude, speech and actions which demonstrate a consistent daily walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
5. Be supportive of all school policies and accept responsibility for their outcome.
6. Be an effective communicator who builds positive relationships with students, their parents, fellow colleagues, FBA Committee members, members of the community and other church members.
7. Be a loving, understanding, and respectful supporter of children.
8. Be emotionally mature and controlled, organized, flexible and consistent; should be cooperative and open-minded, enthusiastic and demonstrate a good sense of humor.
9. Be comfortable and effective when speaking before groups.
10. Be a good steward of his/her time as well as a tither to Gods’ kingdom.
Specific Duties:
Administrative Leadership
1. Recruit and hire qualified faculty and staff.
2. Promote the professional growth of the faculty and staff.
3. See that all employee contracts are computed accurately and executed properly in a timely manner.
4. Supervise the observations and evaluations of employee performance.
5. Handle grievances of all employees.
6. Handle grievances of school families.
7. Counsel school employees, students and their families using God’s Word as basis for all truth.
8. Inform the FBA Committee of the dismissal of employees who do not perform satisfactorily.
9. Counsel employees on school policies regarding salary, fringe benefits and tenure.
10. Be responsible for the school’s health and safety of students, faculty and staff.
11. Ensure proper communication between the FBA faculty and staff.
12. Ensure all faculty and staff receive annual, documented training on recognizing and promptly reporting concerns of child grooming, sexual abuse, or safety risks, in accordance with Texas mandatory reporter statues and the academy’s commitment to safeguarding every child as image- bearers of God.
13. Prepare all student and faculty handbooks. According to current guidelines.
14. Maintain the FBA Committee policy manual. Updating as required.
15. Develop, review, and execute all daily operational policies, procedures and functions of the Academy.
Supervision
1. Supervise or oversee the supervision of all faculty and staff.
2. Organize, motivate, and manage the faculty and staff to attain the objectives of the school.
3. Oversee the supervision of the instructional process in order that both teachers and students are guided and motivated to their greatest potential in Christ.
4. Oversee and uphold student discipline by establishing clear behavioral expectations while actively supporting students’ emotional and mental well-being.
5. Participate in recommending maintenance and management of buildings and grounds.
6. Oversee the maintenance of all inventories of curriculum, furniture and equipment.
7. Maintain a channel of communication with families.
8. Administer student records adequately, accurately and legally.
9. Supervise the student Christian outreach of the school including mission and community projects.
10. Supervise social media, marketing and website presence.
Instructional Leadership
1. Provide instructional leadership to all employees.
2. Lead the faculty in continuous curriculum development.
3. See that the Academy is well equipped to provide quality education.
4. Encourage and provide for the spiritual and academic growth of the faculty and staff.
5. Oversee and maintain FBA’s accreditation status.
6. Develop supportive co-curricular activities program.
7. Support and instruct the faculty and staff in the philosophy and objectives of the Academy.
8. Supervise all faculty straining.
9. Maintain a well-balanced schedule of all school programs.
Research
1. Recommend all program improvements to the FBA Committee.
2. Provide specific information for long-range school planning.
3. Serve information to the FBA Committee as the educational consultant.
4. Lead faculty and staff in identifying and solving school problems.
5. Maintain a respected and validated standardized testing program of student achievement. According to state guidelines.
Finance
1. Work carefully on the formation and maintenance of the annual school budget.
2. Direct/ oversee all school fund-raising.
3. Oversee that IRS requirements and regulations are met.
4. Present an annual recommendation to the FBA Committee for the improvement of the salary schedule and fringe benefits for the faculty and staff.
5. Maintain the approved annual budget.
6. Authorize all expenditures, not to exceed $3500 without FBA committee approval or prior budgeted approval.
Public Relations
1. Foster good relationships with First Baptist Church of Universal City.
2. Foster good relationships with the surrounding community.
3. Maintain all licensing requirements of the State.
4. Maintain all accreditation requirements.
5. Maintain an active relationship with Christian school organizations on the local, regional and state level.
6. Coordinate functions of FBA Parent auxiliary with school programs.
Other
The Administrator will perform other duties as assigned by the Executive pastor or the FBA Committee.
Conditions of Employment
1. First Baptist Church of Universal City will call the Administrator upon joint recommendation of the Personnel Committee, Executive Pastor and the Pastor, who have worked in conjunction with the FBA Committee.
2. The Administrator will work under the supervision of the Executive Pastor, with direction from the FBA Committee.
3. The Administrator’s salary will be set by the FBA Committee.
4. The Administrator will receive fifteen working days of vacation, plus school holidays and one day per month (or 12 days) of sick leave each year. Vacation and sick leave may be carried forward from year to year; however, upon resignation there shall be no payment for accrued sick leave.
5. Dismissal will be upon the action of First Baptist Church of Universal City following the recommendation of the Personnel Committee in consultation with the Pastor, Executive Pastor and the FBA Committee. Thirty days’ notice will be given.
6. Thirty days’ notice is requested by the Administrator when resigning.

Compensation:
1. Salary: $75,000-$85,000, plus benefits.
Paid holidays and vacation.
Academy Tuition Benefit: Full tuition for children of the Head Administrator (Administrator is responsible for the payment of all registration fees, book fees, activity fees and uniforms).

First Baptist Academy is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Universal City, located in the San Antonio, Texas area. First Baptist Academy ministers to over 350 students – 3 years old through 12th grade. The Academy’s mission is to educate students for time and eternity by presenting God’s truth in all areas of education and character development.
