At Merritt Island Christian School, the teacher is the foundation for MICS’ mission to offer a college preparatory education balanced with opportunities in academics, athletics, STEM, and fine arts within a Christian community to prepare strong leaders with Biblical convictions for tomorrow. It is our belief that tomorrow’s world changers are in today’s classrooms.
MICS is in search of a High School Biology and Chemistry teacher who loves Christ, is passionate about developing students’ abilities to think critically about God and the world around them, and is willing to help develop the students’ curiosity for learning. The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field of Science or Mathematics (preferably Education focused), and either hold or be willing to work to hold a FLDOE or ACSI Secondary Teacher certificate. In addition, to be eligible to teach any dual enrollment courses, the candidate must hold a Master’s degree in his/her subject area. The teacher will be presenting instruction of course content, facilitating learning opportunities, including labs, and assessing student participation and achievement from a Biblical worldview. Core Science courses may include Lab Biology and Lab Chemistry. Other Core Science course that our students take include Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, and Forensics. Core Mathematics courses that our students take include Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Math Analysis, Finance, and Pre-Calculus.

Requirements
All applicants must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and be in agreement with the philosophies, Statement of Faith, Statement of Moral Integrity, and Statement of Christian Lifestyle of Merritt Island Christian School. Preferred candidates believe the teaching profession is a godly calling, possess a relevant college degree from an accredited college or university, and are certified by the State of FL or ACSI. The school will also consider candidates who have the credentials that qualify them to work toward the licensure and/or ACSI certification.
Professionally, it is expected that the teacher will:
Hold a BA or BS degree from an accredited postsecondary institution in the areas of Mathematics or Science, preferably focused in Education
Hold ACSI teacher certification or be willing to participate in a program to complete the requirements for certification within a specified time period
Be a committed Christian eager to invest in the spiritual lives of students and able to teach from a Biblical perspective and has the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to “train up a child in the way he should go.”
Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation, and help them grow in their faith through his/her witness and Christian role modeling
Love kids and lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ
Maintain high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters
Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises to maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment
Demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy
Demonstrate advanced proficiency in classroom management, engaging and interactive lessons, curriculum development, and student assessment
Be prepared to assess students along a continuum of proficiency
Be willing to collaboratively plan in ways that are responsive to student needs
Be a team player, enthusiastic visionary, problem solver, creative thinker, encourager, and self-starter with a high energy level
Preferred candidates will hold a Master’s degree in a specific area of science or mathematics
