JOB DESCRIPTION – Middle/High School Principal
General Description
Goal: The Middle/High school principal is the spiritual, administrative, and educational leader of the Middle/High school. The Middle/high School principal is responsible for the administration and supervision of all educational activities of the Middle/High school and is charged to carry out functions in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Denbigh Baptist Christian School.
Overview: The Middle/High school principal shall be a born-again, college graduate, certified or certifiable, who feels called of God to administration.
Contracted by: Hired by the school administrator and contracted by the School Management Team for one year.
Responsible to: The school administrator.
Supervises: The high school principal supervises: teachers, substitutes, and students.
Evaluation: The Middle/High school principal will be evaluated by the school administrator in accordance with this job description.
Required Personal Qualities
The middle/high school principal shall:
Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior.
Believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.
Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech and actions toward others. This includes being committed to God’s Biblical standards for sexual conduct.
Luke 6:40.
Be a member of Denbigh Baptist Church or another local evangelical church.
Show by example the importance of Scripture study and memorization, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the Body of Christ.
Be in whole-hearted agreement with the Statement of Faith of Denbigh Baptist Church and the purpose, mission, and philosophy of Denbigh Baptist Christian School.
Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to “train up a child in the way he should go.”
Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and be prepared to assist them in that task.
Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality.
Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.
Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and in agreement with school policy.
Respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority.
Notify the administration of any policy he/she is unable to support.
Place his/her ministry ahead of other jobs or volunteer activities.
Motivate staff through his/her experience, leadership, and expertise.
Understand curriculum and assist the school administrator and faculty in the development of curriculum.
Have good management skills.
Have a vision for Christian Education and willingness to make significant contributions to the direction of the school for the future.
Essential Functions
The middle/high school principal shall:
A. Spiritual
Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.
Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith.
Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
Provide leadership for the integration of biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education.
Provide spiritual leadership for the student body and staff, challenging them in their daily Christian walk and experience.
B. Supervision Skills
Check lesson plans and grade books.
Monitor assignments, homework, tests, etc.
Evaluate the performance of teachers in writing, describing strengths and weaknesses and providing them suggestions for improvement.
Recommend to the school administrator the hiring and firing of staff.
Oversee the carrying out of the assigned curriculum.
Handle conflicts that may arise involving teachers and students or parents.
Secure substitute teachers. Plan and conduct in-service training and orientation for all substitute teachers annually.
Distribute year-end evaluation forms to teachers and follow up on any needed changes.
Supervise all students in grades 6-12.
Attend extracurricular activities. Represent the school at all major school functions.
Enforce the rules and regulations of the student and teacher/staff handbooks.
C. Management Skills
Provide vision and leadership for a comprehensive academic program.
Promote involvement in academic competitions.
During athletic seasons, check eligibility of student athletes and advise the athletic director as needed.
Monitor completion of quarterly, semester, and yearly grade averages for report cards and office files.
Coordinate special events related to Middle/High school programs, open houses, assemblies, projects, etc.
Report needs for maintenance, repairs, and security to the school administrator.
Assist in the development of the annual school budget and justify individual school needs as included in the budget.
Review curriculum, make suggestions for adoption, and coordinate with teachers about the use of curriculum.
Interview and make recommendation of a new student’s admission as delegated.
Work with teachers to plan for and present year-end awards to students..
Provide a regular status report to the school administrator as directed
Greet students and parents each morning as appropriate.
Maintain a neat and orderly office.
D. Communication Skills
Communicate clearly in oral and written forms.
Communicate students’ strengths and weaknesses with honesty, tact, and understanding.
Encourage and initiate two-way communication.
Demonstrate responsibility in communicating student progress.
Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and the school administrator.
E. Interpersonal Skills
Recognize the responsibility to foster the building of positive morale.
Promote teamwork within the staff.
Recognize the need for good public relations.
Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and to the general public.
Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity and consideration.
Display consistency and fairness.
Recognize the importance of parent and community involvement.
Show responsiveness to parent needs and concerns
F. Professionalism
Set high expectations for personal performance.
Practice ethical behavior, respect confidentiality, and follow proper channels of communication.
Demonstrate continuing professional growth and development.
Seek the counsel of the administrator, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
Actively participate in professional organizations and activities.
Hold the profession in high esteem.
Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, in-service, committee, faculty and Parent Teacher Organization meetings.
Meet basic work expectations (promptness, etc.)
Inform the school administrator promptly if unable to fulfill any assigned duty.
Attend ACSI meetings or seminars as requested.
Cooperate with the school administrator in implementing all policies, procedures and directives governing the operation of the school.
Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.
Play a key role in ACSI accreditation, serving on the Steering Committee.

Requirements
Minimum requirements: Clear Christian testimony and agreement with Statement of Faith and philosophy, purpose, mission, and vision of DBCS; Bachelor's degree; ACSI certification (current or must be obtained).
