Position Title: Preschool Lead or Assistant
Reports To: Lead Teacher / Principal
Contract Term: Starting August 2025
Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: Centreville, VA 20121 (In-person)
Job Type: Full-time, Contract
Position Summary
The Sent Christian School is seeking motivated and qualified teachers for the roles of Lead Teacher and Preschool Assistant. Our early education team collaborates to deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum in a Christ-centered, nurturing and safe environment. We seek passionate individuals dedicated to supporting each child's early academic readiness, social-emotional habits, physical and spiritual growth through structured play, guided activities, and Christ-like mentorship.
Key Responsibilities by Role
For Lead Teachers:
Curriculum & Instruction: Design age-appropriate lesson plans; deliver daily instructions that promote creativity, exploration, and core academic readiness.
Classroom Management: Oversee classroom dynamics using positive discipline strategies to manage student behavior effectively.
Observation & Assessment: Conduct daily observations to track and document each child's developmental progress and note any areas of concern.
Organization: Maintain a tidy, well-structured classroom and manage organized student files and assignments.
For Preschool Assistants:
Instructional Support: Work directly alongside the Lead Teacher to implement daily lessons, activities, and routines.
Supervision & Transitions: Actively supervise students during arrival, dismissal, restroom breaks, transitions, and outdoor play.
Daily Operations: Help maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized classroom space in compliance with health standards.
Shared Duties & Responsibilities (Both Roles)
Faith Integration: Model Christ-like character and integrate biblical principles into daily routines and student interactions.
Student Safety: Maintain strict compliance with state staff-to-child ratios and active supervision protocols at all times.
Health & Compliance: Follow all school and state guidelines regarding hygiene, illness, injury reporting, authorized pickups, and student allergy medical plans.
Communication: Maintain professional, effective verbal and written communication with parents, colleagues, and administration regarding child development and daily needs.
Collaboration: Participate in staff meetings, professional development training, and special school events.
Qualifications & Work Environment
Comprehensive knowledge of early childhood development and health/safety standards.
Demonstration of creativity, passion, and professionalism in conduct and appearance.
Ability to work in a high-energy classroom environment requiring constant attentiveness, physical stamina, and occasional outdoor activities.
Commitment to the faith and conduct expectations of The Sent Christian School.
Requirements
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred)
CDA (Child Development Associate) credential or equivalent (preferred)
2+ years of experience working with preschool-aged children (required for lead teachers)
Strong understanding of child development and early learning practices
Current First Aid and CPR certification (required; must be obtained within 60 days of hire if not current)
Excellent command of English (required)
Successful completion of criminal background check
Must be legally authorized to work in US
