Role Summary:  The School Nurse is responsible for the healthcare of the students and staff.  They provide assistance and care of sick and injured students, maintain health and medical documentation for the school, and are a part of the educational team for health education and promotion.  They are knowledgeable in principles and practices of professional nursing and are intentional about showing Christ and His love through their care.  

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Assess student health needs to develop appropriate patient care plans, including determining when sick or injured children should be sent home, seek follow-up medical care, and, if warranted, be referred for emergency transport to a hospital setting.
• Treat student injuries, illnesses, and chronic conditions by providing appropriate standards of care
• Administers medicine as needed on an emergency and ongoing basis based on student needs.
• Collaborate with parents, family physicians, and teachers to implement individualized student care, particularly for students with chronic conditions.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment and manage supply inventory
• Maintain and promote hygiene practices in the nurse’s office, classrooms, and throughout the school.
• Provide expert advice to administration, faculty, staff, and student parents and guardians on health-related matters.
• Create and Implement Emergency Action Plans for students with severe medical conditions for school year
• Protect students and staff by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols and enforcing medication administration and storage procedures.
• Maintain documentation on student care services and keep confidential medical information secure.
• Ensure operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, requesting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Other health related duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

• Review and affirm, without reservation to the Core Statements adopted by CCA include the CCA Mission, Vision, Core Values, Community Life Statement, Statement of Faith,  Philosophy of Christian Education, School-wide Learning Outcomes, and Instructional Values.  
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in nursing or another health related field
• Proven experience as a nurse with a thorough understanding of best practices
• Experience working with children preferred
