Description
Lighthouse Education Ltd (LE) (the Primary and the Secondary School) and Lighthouse Trust (LTL), its parent charitable Trust, have one (1) combined Finance Team who are responsible for all related finance functions. This team requires the addition of an experienced Senior Accountant to support the work of the team.
Position Overview
The objective of this role is to assist the Finance Manager to fulfill all the tasks related to the Finance Functions of Lighthouse Education Ltd (LE) and Lighthouse Trust (LTL) in the management and reporting of financial data, preparing financial statements, examining and analyzing a company’s accounts and ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures.
The accountant will have an induction Program and understand and adhere to LE’s Vision and Mission’s Statement. He/ or She will have a deep dive in the Policy and Procedures of the Finance Functions as well as the interrelated processes around the Finance.

The Senior Accountant reports to the Finance Lead and responsibilities will include:
Strategic Accounting
Project-based approach to improve, automate, simplify the Accounts processes utilising QuickBooks to its full functionality (Including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Bank Reconcilitation, Reporting, Chart of Accounts)
Understand the LE and LTL financial Processes and deliverables
Recommend improvements, and if approved, lead the process and take accountability for its implementation and hands on proof of works
Assess LE internal control system and recommend any improvement to ensure integrity of our financial and accounting information, promote accountability, and prevent fraud
Finance Lead Assistance in:
Management and reporting of financial data
Preparing financial statements
Ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures
Ensure compliance with all authorities (Companies’ Act, Finance Act, MRA. Registrar, Social Security etc) And ensure updates are implemented as and when laws are amended.
Budget Forecast and projections for the Actual Year
Providing data to inform the Budget for the Next Year
Expenses Details for each Department
Income statement with Student Head Count updates
Financial Statements and Cash Flow Forecasts
Budget for Fees Fixing for the next Academic Year
Monitoring of Budget vs Actual and analysis of variances Financial & Non-Financial Data
Operational Financial Processes, including:
Accounts receivable / payable processing and reporting
Monthly Invoicing on QuickBooks (QB) (eg library fine / loss books secondary)
Income update on QB
Issuing official receipts
Liaising with parents and follow up non-payments
Monthly Debtors Meeting
Setting up and follow up of Standing Orders (Annually)
Cash Float receipts
Ministry of Social Security - NSF Refund for expats leaving Mtius.
Banking (Bank deposits)
Issuing Payment Vouchers
IB payments initiations
Follow up of subscriptions
Filing overall
Qualifications and Experience Required
Graduate of Chartered Association of Certified Accountant (ACCA) or equivalent
3 years Post Graduate Experience in the Accounting Field
In-depth understanding of QuickBooks software - including automations and integrations, as well as the chart of accounts and all the financial reports required for management and user purpose
Working knowledge of Sicorax and Mauritian tax requirements
Excellent understanding of accounting rules and procedures, including the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Strong Financial Analytical skills
Advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets (GoogleSheets preferred)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
A general level of IT literacy and tech skill
Excellent organisational, time management and communication skills
Strong English language required. French or Creole a benefit.
Working Days/Hours
The Accountant is a full-time job (40 hours per week). S/he is required to meet his/her contractual obligations at the school, in person, between 7:20 am - 4:00 pm as per the calendar set for Administrative and Support Staff.
