An experienced science teacher is required to Middle and High School students for Science and Chemistry. Candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of the pedagogy for teaching scientific concepts and be up to date with modern teaching methods. Our school follows the UK curriculum. Experience teaching IGCSE and A-level courses is preferred but not essential.
Our students are predominantly ELL learners and many enter our school with a low level of English. Prospective candidates should have experience and/or formal training for teaching ELL learners. Training includes university modules, CELTA, DELTA and TESOL certificates. The successful candidate will teach General Science to Middle School students and Chemistry to High School students. Middle School students have 6 lessons a week for Science and High School students have 3 lessons a week for Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Our High School students take separate IGCSE exams for three sciences. Teachers are also expected to attend the weekly assembly and run 1 club activity. The other 18 lessons should be used for lesson planning, marking and other school activities.
Our school has a Science Lab with an ever-growing range of equipment and chemicals. We are equipped with gas and Bunsen burners, a variety of different chemicals including mineral salts, group I metals, acids and alkalis. Students are very responsible when using the school laboratory and after training are able to carry out relatively complicated experimental procedures. The Science department is comprised of experienced teachers who have taught the IGCSE courses for several years. It is strongly committed to collaboration and new teachers will receive all the support they require.
