This is a (10) month administrative position that reports to the Principal. Dominion Christian is seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to support the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth of students. As a small, private Christian school, we value individualized attention, faith-based guidance, and a nurturing environment where students can thrive. The School Counselor will work closely with students, parents, and faculty to provide academic advising, college and career counseling, personal support, and character development aligned with Christian values. Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in school counseling, psychology, education, or related field.
- A valid state certification or licensure (if required) for school counseling
- Prior experience in school counseling, preferably in a Christian or private school setting.
- Knowledge of learning differences and special education accommodations
- A personal commitment to Christian faith and a passion for guiding students spiritually, academically, and emotionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Academic College/Career Guidance
- Assist students with academic planning, course selection, and graduation requirements.
- Provide college and career counseling, including college applications, scholarships, and financial aid guidance.
- Help students explore vocational interests and God-given talents through career assessments and counseling.
- Support students in setting academic goals and developing time management and study skills.
- Advise, schedule, and follow graduation credits for 270 students - 200 in grades 9-12 and 70 in grades 6-8; this includes input of student class selection
- Review and upload official high school student transcripts on Georgia Futures website
- Preparing/registering for SAT/ACT
- Requesting and s ending recommendation letters to universities for students from teachers
- Writing counselor recommendation letters for students and training students to access and use necessary programs and websites found during the college application process including Naviance, Georgia Futures, Common App, FAFSA, NCAA/ NAIA, individual university admissions websites, portals and/or scholarship websites.
- Coordinate college representative visits to school, assist university representatives during visit
- Coordinate high school credit recovery courses taken in the summer when students fail courses
Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Support
- Offer individual and group counseling to help students navigate personal challenges, social pressures, and emotional well-being.
- Integrate Christian principles in guidance, encouraging students to grow in their faith and character.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to address students behavioral or emotional concerns.
- Provide conflict resolution and peer mediation when needed.
- Report self-harm or mental health emergencies to parent/guardian, or to DFCS if abuse is suspected per Georgia law
- Schedule, facilitate and document any needed parent-teacher group conferences for middle/high school students when there is a concerning change in academic achievement or new health diagnosis
- Provide academic counseling for students on high school academic probation.
- Set up, facilitate and document parent-teacher group conferences
Student Wellness & School Programs
- Support students in transitions (e.g., middle to high school, high school to college/workforce).
- Coordinate with outside professionals or Christian counselors when specialized support is needed.
Administrative & Ethical Responsibilities
- Maintain student records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with school policies and legal guidelines.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Promote a Christ-centered counseling approach consistent with the schools mission and values.
- Train mandated reporters, and report suspected child abuse or assist in mandated reporting of suspected child abuse to Depart of Family and Childrens services when needed
Dual Enrollment Advising
- Oversee student applications, approve course selections, and monitor course progress
- Communicate with DE university (universities)
Admissions
- Assist, as needed, with reviews of Psychological Educational testing results, IEPs and mental/health diagnoses, and make recommendations for admissions decisions for students with special needs.
Coordinating School testing
- Work with Assistant Principal to schedule, coordinate and oversee school-wide yearly standardized including IOWA, PSAT, AP, and SAT
